❄️ Scotland + Cold Weather = Boilers Throwing a Tantrum ❄️

If your boiler has chosen this weather to down tools, don’t panic — chances are your condensate pipe has frozen. It happens every time Scotland remembers it’s Scotland 🥶

Before you assume the worst (or start swearing at it), try this 👇

🔧 How to Unfreeze a Condensate Pipe (Without Breaking Anything)

1️⃣ Find the frozen bit
Look for the white plastic pipe outside your property. It’s usually frozen at a bend or where it comes out the wall — because of course it is.

2️⃣ Defrost it gently

Pour warm (not boiling!) water over it

Use a hot water bottle

Grab a microwave heat pack

Or wrap it in a hot, wet cloth

🚫 No kettles straight from boiling — cracked pipes = bad times and ruin vibes.

3️⃣ Reset the boiler
Once thawed, hit reset. If the boiler behaves, congratulations — you’ve won this round 🏆 and one step closer to being an engineers 👷😏

🎄 OFFICE CLOSED – LET THE FESTIVE CHAOS BEGIN! 🎄

From 24th December to 5th January, we’re abandoning all responsibility for boilers, radiators, and sanity (KIDDING). We’ll be stuffing mince pies, drinking something that definitely isn’t hot chocolate, and loudly judging terrible Christmas jumpers 🥧🍷🎅

🚨 EMERGENCY CALL-OUTS ONLY 🚨
If your heating dies, your water evaporates, or the world literally ends — we’ll heroically swoop in.

🔧 The Truth Behind Our Silence (and the Smell of Solder at Midnight!) 🔥

You might have noticed things have been a bit quiet from us on here lately — but trust us, it’s not because we’ve been putting our feet up!

Over the past few months, the EMG team have been flat out working on a large project that’s had us spread between sites, up ladders, knee-deep in plant rooms, and juggling what feels like a million heating breakdowns all at once. Add in a surge of boiler installs and our usual love of working into the night (fuelled by sheer stubbornness and love of all things heating) — and you will start to see why we’ve been a little off the radar. 😅

We’ve met some brilliant new customers along the way and reconnected with some of our long-standing faithful's who’ve been with us for years. ❤️ Those moments — when a customer says “thank you,” leaves a kind review, or even just makes us a cup of tea at the end of a long day — honestly keep us going more than you will ever know.

But… and let’s be full on honest for a hot minute — not every day has been rosy. Like most family businesses, we’ve had a few experiences recently that have extremely tested our patience (and our banging sense of humour!). There have been days where we’ve looked at each other after a 14-hour shift and wondered:
“Is it worth it?”.........

And then it happens — a smile from a customer who’s just got heating for the first time in weeks, a five-star review that pops up just when morale’s dipping, or a message saying “Thank you.”
And suddenly, it's all worth it. every early morning, every cold dinner and late night

Because that’s what EMG has always been about — graft, pride, and genuine care for the people who trust us in their homes. We might not always get everything perfect the first time, but we never stop showing up, sorting it, and standing by our work, that’s the difference!

So, while we’ve been quiet on our socials, we’ve been very loud behind the scenes — boilers humming, tools banging, and the team giving it laldy. 🔥

To everyone who’s supported us — old and new — thank you for being the reason we keep going and doing what we love. Here’s to more late nights, warm homes, and hopefully happier days ahead!

Pulled It Out the Bag for Lodge In The Lane! 🍻
When Lodge Lodge In The Laned help, we weren’t about to let EMG (Emergency Mechanical Gremlins 😅) stand in the way of customers enjoying a pint or ten over the weekend.

So, we rolled up our sleeves, donned our imaginary tutus (if you're going to be a fairy godmother, do it properly 😂), and got to work!

🌙💧 A Night in the Life of a Heating Engineer (Staring Bobby Paton)💧🌙

Being a business owner is never easy or 9 to 5. Last night, the phone rang in the early hours — a customer’s boiler was severely leaking, water flooding uncontrollably. They were stressed and needed urgent help.

Within the hour, Bobby was on site. Tools in hand, he got the situation under control, preventing further damage and giving the customer peace of mind. It wasn’t an easy fix but with the use a the good old trusted hairdryer, by the time he got back through the door it was 3:30am.

Not much sleep was had, but that’s the reality of running a truly reactive company. When our customers need us most, we show up.
