Years outside with no bonnet took their toll, so the engine bay is getting the full treatment — wire brushed, laser cleaned, rust treated, Zinga zinc primer and then fresh paint.

Next step… forged 4G63 going in. 👀

🔧 EVO 4 — TIME FOR A NEW LEASE OF LIFE! 🔥

I’ve owned my Mitsubishi Evo 4 for 7 years, and unfortunately she’s spent a good chunk of that time parked outside — even sitting with no bonnet on, so the engine bay has definitely seen better days!

But now it’s finally time to bring her back. 💪

First job has been getting the engine bay properly cleaned up:

⚙️ Cleaned and degreased
⚙️ Loose corrosion removed with a wire brush
⚡ Laser cleaned back to a solid surface
⚙️ Rust converter applied
⚙️ Zinga zinc-rich rust-inhibiting primer applied
🎨 Next up — getting the bay properly painted and looking fresh again

Then comes the good bit… fitting the forged 4G63 and aiming for somewhere around 500–600bhp. 🚀🔥

After 7 years of ownership, it’ll be good to finally see this Evo getting the attention it deserves. There’s a fair bit of work ahead, but I’ll be documenting the rebuild and the laser-cleaning/restoration work as it progresses.

Paint removal from sandstone using laser cleaning.

This was a demonstration on a shop front where the sandstone around the windows had been painted black. The laser removed the coating cleanly and exposed the original stone underneath without damaging the surface.

A great example of how laser cleaning can be used for delicate restoration work where traditional methods can be too aggressive. Ideal for sandstone, brick, heritage buildings, shop fronts and other sensitive surfaces.
