At MBC Timber Frame our primary goal is to promote the knowledge, understanding and utilisation of the Passive House Concept with a long-term view to standardising this building method across both the Irish and UK markets. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO) 25,000 new homes are required to be built in Ireland in 2015 to satisfy current demand, while there is currently a shortfall of

160,000 homes in the south of England alone. Heating cost are set to rise by an estimate 7% in 2015 bringing the average energy bill (electric/oil or gas combination) up to €2200 per household. With the rapid growth in the demand for housing to be both affordable and energy aware, advances in technology and engineering have provided a solution in the form of the passive house concept.

Proud to showcase progress at the Yorston Lodge project in Knutsford, Cheshire. A 1,244.20m² residential development currently taking shape.

This scheme comprises multiple high-performance homes, utilising the MBC insulated raft foundation system with integrated underfloor heating, alongside a 140mm timber frame structure delivering exceptional thermal efficiency.

With U-values of 0.14W/m²K to both external walls and roof, the project demonstrates our commitment to low-energy, high-performance building standards.

As airtightness works approach in the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing the results as this impressive development continues to progress.

Progress continues on our Wimbledon project, utilising the MBC 140mm Stud Timber Frame System to achieve an impressive external wall U-value of 0.11.

With the windows and doors now installed and client’s pe*******on of services through the external envelope, it’s now time for MBC’s designated Airtightness team to arrive on site. “What’s involved during this phase of works you ask ?”

Here's a quick insight!
- Airtightness Materials Installed to u/s of ceiling & 25mm service batten
- Taping & detailing around Perimeters of Windows & Doors
- Taping & detailing around all client installed pe*******ons; MVHR Ducting, Solar Conduits, SVP’s (Soil Vent Pipes) etc
- Taping & detailing around junction between Foundation & MBC Wall System
- Taping & detailing of waistband airtightness materials

Once all the above works are completed, an independent airtightness test will be carried out. Organise and coordinated by MBC, with a target result of 3.0 AC/HR or better.

As a company, we guarantee an air change rate of 3.0 AC/HR for our High-Performance Systems and 0.6 AC/HR for our Passive House systems. This is delivered using robust standard details unique to our frame systems.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Factory Open Day over the weekend.

It was fantastic to welcome so many visitors to our factory, hear about your projects, and showcase how our Passive House and High-Performance timber frame systems support energy efficient building.

Visitors also had the opportunity to see our window and door showroom and learn more about how MBC bring each build to life from design through to delivery.
