At MBC Timber Frame our primary goal is to promote the knowledge, understanding and utilisation of the Passive House Concept with a long-term view to standardising this building method across both the Irish and UK markets. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO) 25,000 new homes are required to be built in Ireland in 2015 to satisfy current demand, while there is currently a shortfall of 160,000 homes in the south of England alone. Heating cost are set to rise by an estimate 7% in 2015 bringing the average energy bill (electric/oil or gas combination) up to €2200 per household. With the rapid growth in the demand for housing to be both affordable and energy aware, advances in technology and engineering have provided a solution in the form of the passive house concept.

A great site visit to see the progress of our Caldicot project!

We previously shared an update on this build before the external cladding began. It’s fantastic to see how the external finishes are bringing this unique home to life.

The project uses our MBC 140mm Stud Timber Frame Kit, achieving an external wall U-Value of 0.14 W/m²K.

MBC has also supplied and fitted the windows and doors, using Rationel AuraPlus Alu Clad Triple Glazed units, finished in RAL 9005 Jet Black both internally and externally.

We’re looking forward to seeing this project continue to take shape and can’t wait to see the finished result.

We recently visited one of our projects in South Yorkshire, and it’s really starting to take shape!

At 439.60m², this impressive home is being constructed using our MBC 140mm Stud Timber Frame Kit, sitting on our insulated raft foundation system.

The external walls are achieving a U-Value of 0.14 W/m²K, with the roof also achieving a U-Value of 0.14 W/m²K following the roof wall upgrade.

It’s always great to see our timber frame projects progress from frame to finished home, and we can’t wait to see this one continue to take shape.
