Some days it feels like no matter how hard you graft, you’re still coming up short - I AM FEELING IT.

You work, you push, you keep going… and somehow there’s still nothing left at the end of the week.

It’s draining. It’s frustrating. And truthfully — it’s getting people down.

The cost of living right now is brutal.
Prices keep climbing, bills keep climbing, fuel, food, rent everything.
But wages? They’re not climbing with it.
And it’s not because people aren’t working hard enough.
It’s because the system is stacked, and ordinary working people are the ones paying for it.

It shouldn’t be like this.
It’s s**t, and it’s unfair, and it’s wearing people down in ways they don’t always say out loud.

So if you’re feeling it — you’re not on your own.
You’re not failing.
You’re not “bad with money.”
You’re living in a time where everything costs more and everyone’s stretched thin.

At JRL, we can’t fix the whole world, but we can stand by our people.

And we’ll keep talking honestly about what everyone else is pretending isn’t happening.

If you’re struggling, stressed, or just fed up we get it.

We’re all feeling it.

And we’re here to support each other through it.

Mental Health Awareness Week 13th to 19th May

Bricklayers carry more than blocks.
They carry pressure.
They carry deadlines.
They carry the worry of keeping the money coming in.

Most of it you don’t talk about you just crack on.
That’s what the job teaches you.
Head down. Get it done. Don’t moan.

But the truth is, even the strongest lads feel it.
Long weeks. Tight prices. Bodies hurting.
And that voice in your head saying “just get on with it.”

There’s nothing weak about feeling worn out.
It’s graft. It’s life. It’s the weight of the trade.

So if you’ve been quieter lately…
If you’ve been carrying more than usual…
If you’ve been stuck in your own head…

Say something.
To a mate.
To your gang.
To anyone who’ll listen for a minute.

A quick chat can take more weight off your shoulders than you think.
You’re not a problem. You’re not a burden.
You’re a bricklayer and you’re not on your own.

Bricklayers said they’re earning the same money they were 10–15 years ago…but doing double the work.

Comments included:
• “Why would a young lad break his back for £300?”
• “Prices haven’t moved in a decade.”
• “Subbies undercut each other and drag everyone down.”
• “Same money as 10 years ago — that says it all.”

You can’t build £400,000 houses on 1990s prices.

If you want quality, you have to pay for it.

Its a difficult time - prices increasing everywhere and wages cut - bricklayers have it tough with hard graft for peanuts.

Whether you’re grafting today or taking a well earned breather, hope you get a bit of time to switch off and enjoy the day.

The trade’s full on at the best of times, so a quiet Monday never goes amiss.

Back at it tomorrow, enjoy the break while it lasts.

How are bricklayers meant to build quality when the materials belong in the skip before the job even starts.
Let’s be honest… half the stuff turning up on site wouldn’t pass as seconds a few years ago.
• Bricks that don’t match — not even in the same postcode.
• Blocks splitting like they’re made of biscuits.
• Pallets arriving soaked for weeks.
• Sizes and depths all over the place.
• And everyone pretending this is “industry standard.”
Then the best part: the bricklayer gets blamed for “poor workmanship.”
Maybe the real problem isn’t the lads on the trowel. Maybe it’s the people sending out materials that wouldn’t make it past the gate if anyone actually checked them.

But hey — what do the people actually doing the building know, right?
