How often should I get my flue swept? 🔥

Take a look at these photos 👇 — this is a heavy build-up of creosote inside a flue cowl. This kind of accumulation doesn’t just reduce performance, it’s a serious fire risk.

HETAS recommend sweeping your flue at least once per year, but frequency really depends on how you use your stove:

🔁 Daily use (through winter): every 3 months (quarterly)
🌡️ Seasonal use: at least once per season
✅ Best practice: sweep at the end of the heating season so creosote isn’t sitting in the flue all summer

Why does this happen?
Creosote builds up when unburnt particles cool and stick inside the flue. This is often caused by:

Burning wood with moisture content above 20%
Slumbering the stove (reducing air too much)
Poor combustion temperatures

Top tips to prevent it:

Another stunning install completed on the Isle of Skye 🌄

This one definitely kept us on our toes — battling wind, rain, and everything the Scottish weather could throw at us! But when you’re working in a location like this, it’s hard to complain. From dramatic mountain views to coastal scenery, it’s not a bad “office” for the day.

We’re lucky that our work takes us to some truly far-flung places, helping customers harness renewable energy no matter how remote the location.

This property is now equipped with a 7.6kW solar array, 6KW inverter and 14KW of battery storage ready and waiting for those brighter days ahead. And when the sun does make an appearance (it will eventually! 😄), the customer will be able to make the most of clean, renewable energy right from their rooftop.
