Dear Friends,
I’m writing to you in my role as a governor at a local high school, where we currently have 44 identified young carers.
These are students who, outside of school, spend much of their time caring for a parent, sibling, or family member. Many of them carry responsibilities well beyond their years — helping with medication, supervision, household tasks, and emotional support. While they do this with incredible resilience, it often means they miss out on the simple freedoms many young people take for granted.
Unfortunately, there is no additional government funding specifically allocated to schools to support young carers with enrichment opportunities or respite experiences.
We would love to organise a fully funded day out for these students — a chance for them to step away from their caring responsibilities, enjoy time with their peers, and simply be children for the day. A day where they don’t have to worry about home. A day that creates a positive memory they can hold onto.
To make this happen, we are seeking donations and community support. Any contribution, large or small, would go directly towards transport, activities, and ensuring the day is completely free for the young carers attending.
If you feel able to support us in any way, it would make a genuine difference to these young people.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and for any help you may be able to offer.
Kind regards,
Matt Evans
