This one came to us via a recommendation. The customer asked on a local Facebook group for someone to repair the boiler. A lady responded to her post, initials RM saying she had PM’d her. She promptly made arrangements for her boyfriend to attend. So far the customer has parted with nearly £400 and the boiler is far from repaired. This is how we found the boiler, without the condensate trap connected!
This so called engineer glued the return manifold, which was cracked to try and prevent it from leaking. The customer was charged for a new manifold and unfortunately the repair didn’t work. The clip for the flow turbine was missing, the expansion vessel hose was also not clipped on correctly. The Pressure relief valve internals are missing, the expansion vessel is flat, the return isolation valve is missing a fibre washer. Unfortunately there is also a leak from behind the pump, possibly a crack in the manifold. We think the crack in the return and pump manifold is possibly from rough treatment while trying to remove to remove the pressure relief valve.
Also as you can see from the picture, the boiler has been leaking from the sump and flue tube manifold, the customer asked him about this and he claimed it was perfectly fine. It’s a very easy repair.
We think the original fault was a flat expansion vessel, combined with the PRV outlet not being connected correctly, hence the boiler leaking while it was running.
Please check an engineer before allowing them to work on your boiler, also payment up front for parts is unprofessional and a major red flag.
