🌍🛰️ We now have Starlink at the iamtheCODE Academy in Kakuma Refugees Camp.

We are incredibly proud and excited about what this means for our girls. With reliable connectivity now available at the Academy, they will begin working on their AI projects, accessing new learning opportunities and connecting their ideas to the wider world. 💻✨

For girls living in Kakuma, connectivity is more than access to the internet ( it is access to knowledge, skills, opportunity and possibility.

Refugee education cannot end at training. Girls and young women need the right to use their skills, access scholarships and finance, connect to employers, build businesses and participate in the global digital economy. The future of work will reward transferable capabilities such as creativity, critical thinking, AI literacy, communication and problem-solving. These skills can travel across borders and reduce the power of geography over opportunity. The next phase of iamtheCODE is therefore about stronger pathways from learning to certification, mentorship, enterprise and decent work.

During the WSIS Forum July 6-10, 2026 in Geneva, Team iamtheCODE was led by our CEO and Founder Lady Mariéme Jamme to talk about our over ten years of work with girls and young women across 89 countries - building digital skills, confidence, safe learning spaces, mentorship and pathways toward economic independence. Lady Mariéme carried to Geneva the voices of more than 610,000 girls and young women, and the belief that the digital future must be built with them, not merely delivered to them. Girls learn technology best when they can practise, experiment and solve problems together. Hackathons, coding clubs and project-based learning rapidly shift girls from “technology is not for me” to “I can build this.” But the social environment matters just as much. Community, peer support and belonging create a form of social currency that encourages learners to take risks, persist and imagine careers in technology. The strongest programmes teach technical skills while creating a space where girls are seen, heard and expected to succeed.

Last week’s WSIS Prizes 2026 Winner recognition for iamtheCODE rests on ten years of courage and collaboration. We thank the girls and young women who kept learning through disruption; the teachers and local teams who created safe spaces; the alumni who returned as mentors; the governments and UN agencies that opened pathways; and the businesses, foundations, donors and champions who invested in possibility. Only sustained partnerships create scale. iamtheCODE’s next chapter requires governments that integrate girls’ digital education into national plans; companies that offer mentors, internships and employment pathways; donors that provide multi-year support; and education partners that open safe spaces, devices and connectivity. Today, the global digital-development community will celebrate projects that turn technology into measurable human progress. The WSIS Prizes Winners Ceremony began today at 08:00 UK time. Our CEO and Founder Lady Mariéme Jamme will be representing our girls, partners and the entire iamtheCODE family in the prestigious awards. We are grateful to stand among the 2026 Champions, representing ten years of work to ensure that women and girls - including those in refugee camps and underserved communities - can learn, create, work and lead in the digital and AI economy. There are still an estimated 189 million fewer women than men online, while women’s exclusion from the digital economy costs the world about US$1 trillion each year. At the same time, around 230 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa are expected to require digital skills by 2030. The choice is clear: invest now so women and girls become creators, entrepreneurs and decision-makers in the AI economy - or allow today’s inequalities to be automated into tomorrow. iamtheCODE is working to code equality into the future.
