The new van has just passed its first anniversary. This 100% electric van has been very reliable and great to drive.

I have had lots of people ask about range and whether or not that is a concern. Well range has never been an issue. We are Hadleigh based company and most of our work comes from Hadleigh and the surrounding area. The furthest I drove on any single day was 105 miles, but over the year my daily average has been just 12.4 miles.

I have also had people ask about charging. Well I always charge at home, either benefiting from free solar energy thanks to my solar panels or by taking a cheap rate night time charge.

Solar PV will never catch on they said! - well let’s look at 2025. It was the sunniest year on record! 1/4 mil PV installs across the country and at its peak output during July it delivered 40% of our energy. It’s doing ok.

If you are an existing solar PV owner beware the dreaded phone call or knock on the door from the outfit that promises the world for free!

We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch so please don’t fall for it. I have been in touch with a number of local residents who have come close to falling for this scam.

The typical format is the chap turns up, saying he’s from a reputable outfit, often banding the term ‘Government backed…’! Once inside your property they ask to look at the system. They ask you to look for any associated documents and while your away, they tamper with your system.

Then on your return your presented with the bad news that your system is not working!!! But fear naught! They will have a quick and easy solution to get you back online soon. Of course this solution comes at a hefty cost - usually in the thousands 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Please please don’t fall for this nonsense. 99 times out of 100 your system is perfectly fine and does not need attention.

TV aerials = WC for birds. Do not have an aerial over your array. Chances are that this aerial is not even in use.

The graph below show how a 3.6kWp solar PV system with 7kWh of battery storage performed yesterday in Hadleigh, Suffolk.

The household had all its electricity loads covered by either the solar PV or the battery storage and so did not spend a penny of electric from their supplier.

Additionally, they heated the water in the hot water cylinder free of charge.

And on top of that they exported / sold 10kWh of electric back to the grid, helping to decarbonise energy supply in Suffolk and earning them a few bob.

Who said that solar PV is no good in the UK.
