Robert McArthur, Director of DRB UK
It is with profound sadness that TSG UK announces the passing of Robert McArthur, Director of DRB UK, on Tuesday 26th November.
Robert was a well-respected member of our team, leading the DRB business with dedication and good humour for over 44 years. His impact on our organisation and the lives he touched are immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Robert co-founded DRB in June 1980, alongside Donnie and Bill. The business began in Robert’s house in Hamilton, Scotland, and although it has moved locations over the years, it remains close to its roots. From a small team of three, DRB has grown to over 60 employees, expanding its reach from Scotland and the Northeast of England to across the UK by the early 90s.
Initially, DRB focused on electrical installations and maintenance at petrol stations. Under Robert’s visionary leadership, the company diversified its services, including the formation of the signage division in 1992 and becoming one of the first NICEIC hazardous area contractors. In recent years, DRB has successfully ventured into installing EV charge points at forecourts, a testament to Robert’s forward-thinking approach.
Robert’s career in the petrochemical industry spanned five decades, marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence. He fostered a culture of teamwork and inclusivity, where everyone felt part of one big family. His open-door policy made him approachable to all; he was always there to offer advice, support and a cheerful word, whether for work-related discussions or personal matters, making a lasting impression on everyone he worked with. Robert was not just a leader but a friend to many, known for his quick wit, sense of humour and profound commitment to his team.
His passing has left a significant void within our business. Robert’s leadership was not about titles or authority but about respect, integrity and a genuine care for others. His guidance wasn’t just professional - it was personal.
Robert’s vision, work ethic and dedication have shaped DRB into the successful company it is today, as part of the wider TSG organisation. His legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.
Our thoughts are with Robert’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
