๐ฅ PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | CHARING CROSS HOSPITAL
When youโre providing scaffold access to approximately 75 metres in height, there is a lot more to consider than simply getting to the top.
This high-level tube & fitting access scaffold at Charing Cross Hospital was erected to provide access from ground level through to the high-level roof area, while also accommodating an attached hoist and the loads imposed through its operation.
Working at this height brings a number of significant challenges that have to be controlled throughout er****on and use:
๐ Working at height โ maintaining safe methods of work and collective protection as the scaffold progresses upwards.
๐ Ties & stability โ ensuring scaffold ties are installed in the correct locations and tested as required to confirm they can achieve the specified loads.
๐ Design compliance โ with a scaffold of this height and an attached hoist, it is essential that the structure is erected in accordance with the scaffold design so the intended loads and forces can be safely accommodated.
๐ Hoist integration โ the scaffold and associated connections need to accommodate the hoist arrangement and the additional loads it introduces into the structure.
๐ Material handling โ safely getting tubes, fittings, boards and other materials progressively through the structure becomes increasingly important as the scaffold rises.
๐ Live hospital environment โ all of this has to be delivered while working within an operational healthcare facility, requiring careful coordination with the client, other contractors and ongoing hospital activities.
At approximately 75 metres, small details can have significant consequences.
Correct design.
Correct ties.
Correct testing.
Correct er****on sequence.
Competent people.
Thatโs what allows complex access like this to be delivered safely.
A fantastic example of the scale and technical capability of the work being undertaken by the Smart Scaffolding Ltd team.
Smart Scaffolding Ltd โ itโs what we do.
