The pre-existing stair told the wrong story – commercial in appearance and lacking the beauty it deserved.

Bisca's aim was to create a piece of art within the heart of the home. The result was a luxurious, modern staircase that felt comfortable, fluid and graceful. Working closely with interior designer, Philipa Lance and lighting experts, Brilliant Lighting - ensured the bespoke staircase design aligned perfectly with our client's interior vision.

Our Top 30 Staircase Countdown continues with another standout design chosen by industry peers. At No. 25 we have an Industrial Style Stair in Scotland.

Each staircase is unique in both design and craftmanship, however this project holds particular gravitas... as it was the first time Bisca have had to deliver a staircase by tractor, along a beach.

Key features include:
🌟 Steel Ribbon Structure
🌟 Kiln Dried Oak Treads
🌟 Square Fixings

The staircase is designed to reflect the island's heritage, using natural materials which honour the building's historic character.

This oak staircase renovation was conceived as a defining feature within a beautifully refurbished family home. The original staircase lacked the character and presence the property deserved, presenting an opportunity for Bisca to create a design that felt intrinsically connected to the home.

The simplicity of the finished staircase quietly conceals the technical expertise, meticulous design development and craftsmanship behind it. Every element, from the stained oak treads to the forged balustrade and steel structure, was handcrafted specifically for our client.

Achieving a high level of clarity requires more than design intent – it demands precision throughout the entire process. Bisca’s full-service approach ensures every stage, from concept development to craftmanship, is carefully considered.

We were introduced to this project by luxury interior designer Sally Anne McCoy, founder of Edwards McCoy Ltd

Our brief - to translate Sally's vision of a staircase which would reflect classical elegance, while feeling fully integrated within the wider scheme. In her words... 'The result is not just a staircase but a true architectural feature that elevates the space it sits in'.

From Fragmented to Flowing. As featured in Architecture Magazine, this before and after case study - showcases how a North Yorkshire farmhouse renovation started with a staircase replacement in mind - but turned into so much more.

Bisca was introduced to work with the project's architect and interior designer early in the project - changing the trajectory of the scheme. Rather than the staircase being constrained by the layout - it was used to inform circulation, structure and the sensitive relationship between light, movement and aesthetics.

Before & After – From Fragmented to Flowing This North Yorkshire farmhouse arrived at a familiar starting point for many staircase renovation projects. Despite its character and setting, the internal architecture had become disjointed over time. Incremental alterations had left the plan fragmented...

Crafted for a 400-year-old Suffolk barn conversion, this staircase design celebrates materials deeply connected to the character of the property itself.

Chunky green oak treads, coppiced hazel uprights and dark brown leather detailing combine to create a tactile and honest staircase, rich in heritage.

Designed to balance sculptural craftsmanship with warmth and authenticity - this project is the perfect reminder of how Bisca’s approach to materiality, helps shape not just the staircase itself - but the emotional character of the home around it.

Sweeping through the centre of this characterful farmhouse, reclaimed oak treads and graceful helical forms elevate the staircase into far more than a route between floors.

Every detail was designed to shape how the home feels - softening the architecture, drawing natural light through the entrance hall, while creating a feeling of warmth, calm and understated luxury.

Inspired by the surrounding ancient woodland, the staircase balances sculptural beauty with comfort, craftsmanship and emotional connection… a reflection of Bisca’s unique approach to staircase design. Where every curve, material and detail is carefully considered.

Carefully wrapped and poised for departure, this staircase enjoys its final evening in Yorkshire - nestled beneath a flowering clematis, before entering the last chapter of its Bisca journey.

Set to rise dramatically through the vaulted entrance hallway of our clients stunning new build home - its beautifully engineered components are soon to be transformed in to sculptural bronze forms; the structure welded seamlessly into its final position, before flowing handrails, layers of rich oak treads and refined detailing complete the installation with concealed lighting.
