Why use Lime, what's the point? 🤔
📖 Lime pointing allows the moisture to evaporate from the joints more effectively which reduces the level of moisture in the fabric of the building. If a cement mortar has been used, then all moisture movement is trapped within the stone/ brickwork and building material which will cause irreversible frost-related damage, impairment from the crystallisation of soluble salts and also damp. Lime pointing is unquestionably the best practise for historic stone built walls.
