Slaking lime and making lime putty at . Adding water to pre-roasted lime causes a volatile exothermic reaction, giving off a lot of heat but ultimately providing a material that can be used for rendering and pointing.

Last week and preventing the corner of this old blacksmiths in Gweek from collapse. This Buddleja had clearly been growing through the cob for some time. Its roots were at least 7ft long. Steve and I carefully dismantled the structure, removed the plant and then rebuilt the corner. Very satisfying.

Love this point in the process just before skimming. Bonding coat and a good long feather edge are great for flattening uneven surfaces.

Easter weekend kitchen in Porthleven. A making flat job which involved skimming a ceiling, boarding up unneeded socket cutouts, squaring up walls and window reveals after tile removal, fitting angle bead around the windows, and skimming the walls into new kitchen unit spaces.

Interesting job, I built a new double glazed sash window 18 months ago probably the biggest I have done, to replace the existing. However, I realised once I began hacking back the render, the original window had been built into and under the dropped brick lintel, if you can call it that.

After structural calcs obtained, removed the old lintel and replaced with pre-stressed concrete, fitted new window, rendered, bonded, plastered, painted happy!

If you have plastering/decorating jobs that need doing, particularly small jobs that can be done over a few days pm me.
