🐔 When chickens try to join the Moose Roofing team… 🛠️

This week John and the Moose Roofing & Building crew replaced a badly leaking garage roof here on the Isle of Wight — complete with rotten fascias, five new joists, fresh OSB boarding and a three-layer built-up felt system.

The job took three days, required some careful weather-dodging, and featured:
✔️ Mince pies
✔️ Biscuits
✔️ Two free-roaming chickens doing their best to “help”

John briefly wondered if the chickens might make better labourers… but enthusiasm doesn’t quite equal roofing skills.

It might only be a garage roof, but it’s now solid, weatherproof and built to last — and yes, we’ve written it up as a blog (chickens included).

🎄 Just in time for Christmas — another Freshwater roof saved! 🎄

We’ve just wrapped up a gorgeous re-roof on a Victorian home in Freshwater, and this one had a bit of everything…
✔ Recycled original Welsh slate (still going strong after decades!)
✔ Smart new club-crested ridge tiles and finials

✔ And a chimney that came “protected” with… chicken wire. Yes, really. 🐔😅

🚨 When a “repair” isn’t really a repair…

Last month we were called out to a property on Fellows Road in Cowes after the homeowners had a sneaking suspicion their recent roof “fix” wasn’t quite right. And they were spot on.

A mainland crew had charged £8,000 for what should’ve been a small section replacement — but what they left behind was a proper cowboy job:
🔧 wonky tiles
🔧 unsupported joists
🔧 gaps you could spot from the pavement
🔧 and, unsurprisingly… major leaks straight into the loft

So, the Moose team rolled up, stripped it all back and rebuilt the entire section properly — for half the price of the original botch-job. Now the home has a solid, watertight roof that’ll stand up to Isle of Wight weather for years.
