Seals will typically fail in ultra-low temperatures when the low temperature limit is reached. In these situations, the elastomer resists deformation to pressure and leak paths can arise. 🌡️

This is why material selection is absolutely paramount to guarantee the failsafe performance of ultra-low temperature ‘O’ ring seals.

Hydrogenated nitrile rubber seals are an incredibly worthwhile choice for a diverse range of applications. Their resistance to oil, chemicals and high temperatures makes them highly suitable for dependable seals that will stand the test of time.

Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) is a synthetic rubber copolymer used in the manufacturing of rubber seals. HNBR benefits from improved resistance and strength, in addition to a large number of other benefits. These benefits include:

✔️ An increased temperature resistance range of -40°C to +150°C, with short term excursions to 170°C
✔️ High chemical resistance
✔️ Resistance to oils, such as crude oil, and modern fuels
✔️ Excellent tensile and tear strength

And even more... Read the full blog here:

Find out what hydrogenated nitrile rubber seals are used for, what the properties of HNDR are and why it’s ideal for your application with our useful guide.

Caring for ‘O’-rings is essential to ensuring their longevity and effectiveness throughout their use. A key aspect of maintenance is lubricating, however it is important to know how to do so effectively and which lubricants are most suitable.

We recommend using lubricants based on synthetic compounds, such as silicone-based lubricants. These lubricants have the following benefits:

✅ Perform better over a wide range of conditions.
✅ Pose no health risks or contamination through touch.
✅ Are waterproof.
✅ Reduce friction significantly.
✅ Have low volatility.
✅ High-temperature stability.
✅ Low-temperature fluidity.

We at TRP Polymer Solutions have provided expert guidance on what lubricants are suitable for ‘O’-rings, lubricants you should avoid, and how to lubricate ‘O’-rings. Read the guide here: https://trp.co.uk/do-o-rings-need-lubrication-a-guide-to-compatible-lubricants/

Mechanical seal failure can pose a significant hindrance to your application and is a costly and time-consuming occurrence, but why do mechanical seals fail?

Mechanical seal failure most commonly comes down to a few reasons:

♦️ Incorrectly installed seals.
♦️ Seal deterioration from high heat.
♦️ Poor resistance from the seal materials against the fluid sealed.
♦️ Restricted seal motion with the faces opened.

Luckily, we've wrote a blog that will equip you with the knowledge to put preventative measures in place to reduce mechanical seal failure within their systems. Click here to find out how:
