First the Bad – January 2025 sees the Energy price cap rise again.

The good news is prices of top quality solar panels and storage batteries have dropped significantly over the past month.

We install solar panels with industry leading performance, such as REC Alpha Pure Rs manufactured in Singapore. Pair these with SolarEdge inverters and DC-coupled storage batteries and you’ve got a high quality, long warranty system which will carry on out-performing many others for years to come.

Now to the Ugly – you’ve guessed it, buying cheap components. Their provenance is doubtful and it can lead to problems down the line when they fail; why enter the race to the bottom, when it’s never been cheaper to install super high quality components.

Not once, but twice! This happy customer in Worcestershire has returned for another solar PV system. This is what he said on Which? Trusted Trader...

With UK energy prices going up by 10% this autumn now is a great time to look at how solar PV can reduce your electricity bill – and save the planet at the same time.

Ofgem announced on Friday 23 August that the energy price cap will increase by 10% from 1 October 2024.

“As well as seeing an uptick in interest for solar PV, people are wanting to add battery storage to their existing solar system,” said Jaine Yule, Director of Solarkinetics Limited.

“Buying in electricity is often up to four times the price of what you’ll get if you sell it back to the grid. Being able to use the electricity you generate by storing it in batteries for use later makes perfect sense.”

The Solarkinetics team were working on the Isle of Canna, off the west coast of Scotland last week. Everyone mucked in, installing a 13.9kW array of 34 x 410W REC Alpha Pure R solar panels on a community hub. And when we say everyone that included our very own Jaine Yule!

The view across the harbour to the Isles of Rum and Eigg were stunning so was the Foraged Kelp Salad at the Canna Cafe. No wonder this is a popular spot for intrepid tourists wanting a holiday away from it all.

Do you think bird guards around solar panels are a good idea? Will it really protect the panels from the main culprit - pigeons?

We think not. Instead of going underneath the panels, birds sit on them, leaving their droppings. Unless washed away, the droppings reduce power output from the solar PV array.

In general roof guards force debris such as leaves to build up around the top of the solar array, impacting the integrity of the roof and stopping the free flow of water down the roof.

Of course, we install bird guards when requested - we just want customers to be aware of the disadvantages.

The Government’s plan for a solar “rooftop revolution” is a real game changer. 🌞👏

Labour will introduce solar-related regulations for new builds in 2025. Something that we in the industry think is long overdue.

The plan is to make Britain a clean energy superpower. Bring it on!

A house brimming with solar panels! 👏

This house built by J G Price & Sons, property developers who often install solar PV on their new builds, asked us initially to put in 8 solar panels integrated into the slate roof. 🌞

Since then the home owner came to us for more solar, 16 x 420W REC Alpha panels on the front and 12 x 405 REC TwinPeak 5 panels on the back and 12 x 405 REC TwinPeak 5s on the garage. 🌞🌞 Needless to say, all that power is fed into BYD batteries when it’s not consumed in the house.

The excess is exported to the grid via two inverters earning the owner a nice income. £££

Congratulations to for winning the top prize in the International Aid & Development category at the 2024 Charity Awards. 👏👏

Solarkinetics is proud to support SolarAid and their amazing work in Africa to bring universal access to energy for all. To date, SolarAid have distributed 2.3 million lights across sub-Saharan Africa.

The award is for their Light a Village project in Malawi providing solar home energy systems in Kasakula, one of the country’s poorest and remotest communities. Here 4000 systems were installed in Kasakula’s 7,500 households in a pilot programme that's been so successful, it's been rolled out to the rest of the community.

Solar enterprises in Senegal, Sierra Leone and Madagascar have now expressed interest in replicating the scheme. Well done SolarAid for your pioneering work.
