The ILM course provided by Hoople Group has given the three TL team members the essential skills and confidence they need to manage and lead people effectively - something which Michael appreciates:

🗣️ “The course has helped me become a more effective assistant manager by improving my communication, delegation, and team leadership skills on the shop floor. I’ve learned how to allocate tasks based on skills, motivate staff during busy production periods and handle conflict more confidently. It has also strengthened my ability to plan workloads, support safe working practices and maintain high production standards. Congratulations to Dean, Gary, Mircea, Niall and Will 👏 for successfully completing the ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management course provided by Hoople Group .

The colleagues built their knowledge and skills together. Gary said his main takeaway was feeling more confident in holding team meetings and feeling able to take charge in difficult situations. This was echoed across the other delegates. Meanwhile, Dean noted that he is now confident in adapting his communication to meet the needs of his colleagues.

It’s several months since they completed the course and it’s easy to see the impact it has had on their confidence and management style. Their teams have been very complimentary, and they are feeling respected in their roles ⭐️.

Congratulations to Charlotte Strike and David Webb who have successfully completed a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in Construction and Built Environment, achieving a Distinction and Merit, respectively 🏆.

The two-year course is designed for technical and professional careers in the construction industry. Taylor Lane sponsored their participation.

🗣️ Liam Hale, Construction Director said:
“We are extremely proud of Charlotte and David and congratulate them on their achievements. In gaining the HTQ in Construction and Built Environment, which is an industry respected qualification, they have a solid foundation from which to build their career in timber frame construction.”

👏 Since completing the course and meeting other business criteria, Charlotte and David have advanced to full-time roles: Charlotte as a Contracts Manager and David as Timber Frame Designer.

Both are busy managing their own projects working on private and affordable housing schemes for national and regional housebuilders.

👋 Meet our Factory Foreman, Will.

Will is factory foreman on the afternoon shift at our panel-making factory on Thorn Business Park in Hereford. He has been with the company for four years, having joined as a factory operative on the day shift. With ambition and drive, Will is keen to make the most of every opportunity…

Q: Do you have a background in construction?
🗣️ I’d done a bit of labouring on building sites at weekends, but nothing serious. I was a lifeguard prior to starting at Taylor Lane!

Q: I understand you’ve recently completed the Institute of Leadership & Management Level 3 course, congratulations. How has this influenced the way you work?
🗣️ I manage a team of 18, including two team leaders. I am also younger than most. The ILM course has given me the tools to manage the team with confidence. They’re responsive and respectful which is so rewarding. I’m keen to do more courses and build my skillset. I love problem solving too so I’d like to explore roles in contracts or onsite, maybe. I don’t know, but it’s good to know that if I want to try something new then Taylor Lane will support me.

Q: What tips would you give to people considering a role in one of our factories?
🗣️ You’ve got to be practical. It’s not just enough to know the process, it’s hands-on too. It’s a safe working environment, aided by modern technology and machinery, but it’s still a physical role. It has its benefits though – I work on the Afternoon shift which means I only work four days a week, with no weekends!
