Our manufacturing team has recently completed and delivered a bespoke Main LV Switchboard for one of the North West of England's leading steel manufacturers, specialising in complex forming and welding solutions for the aerospace industry.

Designed and manufactured at our Manchester headquarters, this Form 4 Type 2 Main LV Switchboard has been engineered to provide safe, reliable, high-performance power distribution, tailored specifically to the customer's operational requirements.

This week, at our Manchester HQ, our team has successfully designed and manufactured two bespoke LV switchboards for a local manufacturer investing in the future of recycling and advanced manufacturing.

Following a recent £500,000 investment to modernise and automate its facility, the manufacturer is increasing production capacity while enhancing its ability to transform recycled materials into high-quality products. Our switchboards will provide the reliable power infrastructure for the site's shredding and injection moulding processes, helping to keep this critical operation running safely and efficiently. Both switchboards have now completed manufacture and are ready for delivery, installation and commissioning in the coming weeks. 👏

Powering over 200 new homes within a growing city 🏠⚡

Here at R&B Switchgear Group, our Manchester HQ has designed and manufactured yet another LV switchboard. We continue to support new residential developments across the UK, and this latest project is no exception.

With a scheduled completion date of Autumn 2026, the team has already completed and supplied the Main LV Switchboard for the development. Today is International Women in Engineering Day, and here at R&B Switchgear Group, we are committed to helping address the gender imbalance within STEM careers. 💜⚡

At every given opportunity, we aim to showcase just how rewarding, exciting and impactful a career in engineering can be for women. We want to highlight the opportunities available and demonstrate where a career in power engineering can take you.

One of the best decisions we made last year was placing a strong focus on Women in STEM during National Manufacturing Day. We had the opportunity to welcome a group of outstanding female students from a local high school and give them an insight into what a career in engineering could look like.

The feedback we received was incredibly powerful. One student told us:
"I want to join R&B as the first female design engineer."

Statements like this remind us that, while there is still work to do as an industry, the progress being made is creating real impact. By continuing to inspire the next generation and break down barriers, we can help build a more diverse and inclusive future for engineering.

Starting the week strong with another project complete and what a beautiful week of weather we're having. ☀️⚡

At R&B Switchgear Group, our Manchester workshop team has successfully completed the design and manufacture of a Main LV Switchboard built to Form 4 Type 2 construction for a local stadium as part of an ongoing investment in the facility.

The switchboard will support the stadium's lighting infrastructure and has been designed with enhanced ventilation to accommodate the higher-rated busbar system and ensure reliable operation.

The switchboard is now ready for delivery to site, where it will be installed and commissioned by our engineering team.

Whilst many of us are enjoying the sunshine, our engineers are out on sites across the UK carrying out installations, maintenance and commissioning works. With temperatures continuing to rise, it's also a good reminder to ensure your electrical systems are operating safely, efficiently and as intended.

Here at R&B Switchgear Group, we have seen an increasing demand for outdoor feeder pillars over the past few years, particularly across critical infrastructure applications where reliable power distribution is required across large and continually evolving sites.

Built to operate in harsh environments, feeder pillars play an essential role within modern power distribution networks.

For this particular project, we have designed, manufactured and supplied a double door feeder pillar built to Form 3b Type 2 construction for an airfield application. This forms part of a wider ongoing project we have been supporting with the client over the past few years as the site continues to develop and expand.

The feeder pillar is now ready for delivery to site, where it will be installed and commissioned by the team.

It’s already been a busy May for the manufacturing team here at R&B Switchgear Group, with another major LV switchgear package progressing through our Manchester manufacturing facility.

Our team have recently designed and manufactured a new replacement LV switchgear solution for a extra large supermarket in the North of England, located within a busy and well known retail destination.

The new infrastructure will support a wide range of critical services across the facility including the in store café, refrigeration systems, lighting, petrol station and other essential electrical loads throughout the site.

The project includes a Main LV Intake Switchboard and an Outgoing Section Switchboard, both manufactured to Form 4 Type 6 construction within welded steel enclosures, designed for front access operation and built in line with EN 61439 1 & 2 standards.

Due to the nature and layout of the existing switchroom, the switchboards have been engineered with an overhead busbar arrangement to interconnect the panels, creating a bespoke configuration not commonly seen within standard retail switchgear installations. This approach allows the new system to integrate within the constraints of the existing environment while maintaining safe access and operational flexibility.

Alongside the bespoke busbar arrangement, the project also incorporates multifunction metering with Modbus communications, surge protection, generator connection facilities and extensive outgoing distribution to support the operational demands of a high traffic retail environment.
