Another project completed, just in time before the bank holiday weekend here in England. 👏⚡

At R&B Switchgear Group, our Manchester workshop team has successfully completed the design and manufacture of a Main LV Switchboard built to Form 4 Type 2 construction for our second SEND school project in the UK.

We are proud to support a wide range of industries and applications, but projects like this are especially rewarding knowing the infrastructure we deliver will help support specialist education environments and make a real difference.

Here at R&B Switchgear Group, we have seen an increasing demand for outdoor feeder pillars over the past few years, particularly across critical infrastructure applications where reliable power distribution is required across large and continually evolving sites.

Built to operate in harsh environments, feeder pillars play an essential role within modern power distribution networks.

For this particular project, we have designed, manufactured and supplied a double door feeder pillar built to Form 3b Type 2 construction for an airfield application. This forms part of a wider ongoing project we have been supporting with the client over the past few years as the site continues to develop and expand.

The feeder pillar is now ready for delivery to site, where it will be installed and commissioned by the team.

It’s already been a busy May for the manufacturing team here at R&B Switchgear Group, with another major LV switchgear package progressing through our Manchester manufacturing facility.

Our team have recently designed and manufactured a new replacement LV switchgear solution for a extra large supermarket in the North of England, located within a busy and well known retail destination.

The new infrastructure will support a wide range of critical services across the facility including the in store café, refrigeration systems, lighting, petrol station and other essential electrical loads throughout the site.

The project includes a Main LV Intake Switchboard and an Outgoing Section Switchboard, both manufactured to Form 4 Type 6 construction within welded steel enclosures, designed for front access operation and built in line with EN 61439 1 & 2 standards.

Due to the nature and layout of the existing switchroom, the switchboards have been engineered with an overhead busbar arrangement to interconnect the panels, creating a bespoke configuration not commonly seen within standard retail switchgear installations. This approach allows the new system to integrate within the constraints of the existing environment while maintaining safe access and operational flexibility.

Alongside the bespoke busbar arrangement, the project also incorporates multifunction metering with Modbus communications, surge protection, generator connection facilities and extensive outgoing distribution to support the operational demands of a high traffic retail environment.

This month, we celebrated an incredible milestone as our Senior Project Manager, John Harvey, marks 25 years of service at R&B Switchgear Group.

John has played a key role in the success of the business. As one of our long-standing leaders, he has helped shape our position as a trusted switchgear manufacturer, built strong and lasting relationships, and supported the development of junior project engineers into fully fledged project engineers, all while driving a strong pipeline of work for the team.

Group Founder & CEO, Mark Beswick, delivered a speech to mark the occasion, reflecting on John’s journey over the past 25 years:

“John’s been a massive part of what we’ve built at R&B. You know what you’re getting with him every day. He’s helped bring a lot of people through the business and set the standard for how we do things. We’re lucky to have him.”

As we head towards the end of the week, R&B Switchgear Group has completed another replacement LV switchboard, manufactured at our Manchester facility and ready for installation at a large retail site in the south of England.

This project involves the upgrade of existing infrastructure within a back of house switchroom, replacing ageing equipment with a modern low voltage power distribution package designed to improve safety, reliability and long term performance.

The solution features a Form 4 Type 6 fully compartmented main LV switchboard, alongside a changeover switchboard, engineered to support critical systems across the store, including refrigeration, HVAC, lighting and wider operations.

Designed for a live retail environment, the scope includes full mechanical assembly, busbar installation and reconnection, detailed cleaning, inspection and final testing, including insulation resistance (Megger) and ductor testing, ensuring the system is ready for safe energisation on site.

Here at R&B Switchgear Group, another project has recently been completed at our Manchester workshop. ⚡🛠️

Our team has manufactured a package of low voltage power distribution equipment for a new large-format supermarket development in Scotland, supporting the opening of a major new retail store.

The installation includes a Form 4 Type 6 fully compartmented intake switchboard and main LV switchboard, designed to provide safe and reliable power distribution throughout the store and its supporting infrastructure.

The equipment will be installed within a purpose-built containerised LV switch room, converted and prepared to house the electrical infrastructure required to power the facility. This containerised solution provides a dedicated, controlled environment for the switchgear while allowing efficient installation on site.

Pictured here are both the intake switchboard and main LV switchboard lineups, manufactured by our team and now ready for delivery and installation.

R&B Switchgear Group has recently manufactured a package of low voltage power distribution equipment for a new six-storey government workspace development, designed to accommodate around 1,100 employees.

The installation includes two main LV switchboards built to Form 4 Type 5 fully compartmented construction, incorporating solid copper busbars rated up to 1250A with a 50kA fault rating, along with integrated multifunction metering and surge protection.

Also included within the package is a dedicated life safety switchboard and a 150kVAr detuned power factor correction cubicle, supporting stable and efficient electrical distribution throughout the building.

Pictured here is one of the main LV switchboard lineups manufactured by our team, ready for delivery and installation. Our scope will also include on-site reconnection and testing, including bolting sections together, remaking busbars, cleaning, and carrying out post-erection megger and ductor testing.
