**📱 Screen Time: Let's Change the Conversation**
One of the biggest concerns parents share with us is screen time.
And honestly... you're not alone.
If you've ever found yourself saying, *"That's enough screen time!"* or negotiating over devices, welcome to the club! Parenting in a digital world isn't easy.
But perhaps we're asking the wrong question.
Instead of asking, "How much screen time is my child having?", maybe we should be asking, "What are they doing with that screen time?"
There is a world of difference between a child spending an hour:
💻 Learning to code
🤖 Building a robot
📱 Creating an app
🎨 Designing a game
🧠 Solving real-world problems
..and spending an hour mindlessly scrolling or watching endless short videos.
One is creating.
The other is consuming.
At Ninja Code Academy, we believe technology is one of the greatest tools our children have - when it's used with purpose.
That's why we teach on laptops, not tablets. A laptop encourages children to think, create, build and solve problems. It feels like a tool for work and learning, not just entertainment.
But we're just as passionate about the skills that don't involve screens.
In our weekly classes and holiday camps, children work together, communicate, help one another, present their ideas and build confidence. Many of our older students volunteer with our younger groups, developing leadership, empathy and patience along the way.
These social and emotional skills are every bit as important as coding.
So here's a simple challenge for this week...
Instead of asking:
❌ "How long were you on your screen today?"
Try asking:
✅ "What did you create today?"
Whether it's a computer program, a drawing, a Lego masterpiece, a story, a recipe or even a den in the garden, let's celebrate creating over consuming.
There is still plenty of room for climbing trees, kicking a football, reading a book, painting a picture, making up dances and simply being bored enough to become creative.
Technology isn't the enemy.
Mindless use of technology is.
Let's help our children build healthy habits, learn to self-regulate and see technology as a tool to create opportunities - not just consume content.
💬 We'd love to hear your thoughts.
What's one screen-time rule or habit that's worked well in your family?
Share it in the comments - you might just help another parent.
