Yesterday we hosted the engineering department at our A1 facility for the annual meeting. Getting everyone in the same room takes some doing, so we make the most of it.

We shared company updates on new starters, current vacancies and the targets we are working to, and spent time on something just as important: making sure we are aligned on the standards we hold ourselves to. High expectations of every individual, and of the team as a whole.

Our engineers are the people our customers see on site, often in demanding conditions and under real time pressure. Keeping them informed, supported and pulling in the same direction is what makes the difference on delivery.

Getting the engineers together is never straightforward. They are the team that is always away, out on sites up and down the country, so we are grateful to them for making the time to gather.

Meet the team: Glyn Cann, our new Commercial Manager.
Glyn joined ATAC Solutions this week as Commercial Manager, supporting the continued growth of the business across the UK water and utilities sector.

He will play a key role in business development activities, managing procurement processes, developing robust costing structures and ensuring commercial viability across projects. His primary focus will be opportunities and delivery frameworks with Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities, alongside identifying ways to enhance profitability, strengthen customer relationships and drive sustainable business growth.

Glyn brings 25 years' experience in the water industry, beginning on the shop floor at 18 fabricating equipment and progressing to head of procurement with some of the best-known names in equipment supply, covering inlet screens, distributors, grit removal and biological treatment. He then spent 13 years in other sectors, most recently as procurement and operations manager in oil and gas and in aluminium recycling, and now returns to where his career began. Reconnecting with familiar faces in the industry is something he is particularly looking forward to.

Outside work, Glyn is a keen biker and the unpaid roadie for his son's prog metal band, Vanitas, travelling the country to gigs and festivals. When he is not doing that, he bakes and gets to as much live music as he can.

Nidhir Chenna has spent the past fortnight with us on work experience, his second placement at ATAC. Many of you will know his mum, Madhavi Chenna, our Finance Assistant, so Nidhir has grown up around ATAC and has always taken a keen interest in what we do.

He spent most of the two weeks with our Process Team, and also shadowed colleagues in CAD and Projects to build a broader understanding of the business.This year we deliberately gave him more responsibility and more genuine project work, including time in our lab.

In Nidhir's words: "I liked getting new projects and more complex work this year, like working in the lab and researching antibiotic-resistant bacteria in sewage water. There was a lot more to do than last time, which really helped me understand the wastewater treatment process, and the kind of work process scientists do with the samples they collect from site."

Nidhir is keen to pursue a career in our industry, and on the strength of these two weeks it will be lucky to have him. Helping young people who are curious about water and wastewater engineering is something we are always glad to do. Our industry needs them.

We want to give a shout-out to Fraser, who is deep into training for The Big Half in September, and the dedication has been something to watch.

He's now on week 9 of 12, and the progress is real. This week Fraser knocked out one of his longest runs yet, a solid 16 km, and clocked his fastest 15K ever doing it. That's not luck. That's early mornings, interval sessions on the treadmill, back-to-back long runs and showing up even when it's easier not to.

Next up is the big one: a 19 km milestone. Nail that, and Fraser reckons he'll be ready to line up on the big day with confidence.

But this run is about far more than miles and medals. Fraser is raising money for mental health awareness - a cause that's very close to his heart. Too many people are struggling in silence, without access to the decent support they deserve. That has to change. Every conversation started, every bit of stigma broken down and every pound raised helps get real support to people who need it.

As part of the "Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day", we were delighted to welcome Josie Latter - daughter of Ben Latter ATAC's Bids & Proposals Manager - into the office.

We set Josie a proper design brief: create a poster on the importance of 5-point PPE that featured our logo and was bright, colourful and informative. Safe to say she delivered!

Josie loves anything creative, so we sent her home with a drawing pad, some pencils and a set of fancy graphic markers as a thank you and hopefully a little encouragement to keep that creative passion going.

And it doesn't stop there: Josie's poster will now be displayed in the office and by the warehouse entrances as an ongoing reminder to everyone of just how important PPE is.
