AAPM and PTCOG have identified upright proton therapy as one of three developments shaping the future of the field. In June, our Marie® system, as part of Mevion Medical Systems S250-FIT, enabled the world's first ultra-compact upright proton therapy treatment at Stanford Medicine.

"The overriding emotion, for me, was one of real pride."

In the latest episode of From Concept to Reality, Lisa reflects on what our first patient milestone meant after so many years at Leo Cancer Care.

For Lisa, it is knowing the hard work and the long days that so many people put in to reach this point.

Looking ahead, her hope is a simple and human one: that patients feel more comfortable and at ease, able to face their clinician, able to see the room while the clinicians can see them. Because that real human touch, she says, makes a big, big difference.

👏 A major milestone for upright radiotherapy in Europe 👏

We are proud to announce the installation of Europe’s first Marie® upright radiotherapy positioning system and integrated CT scanner at Centre Léon Bérard in Lyon, France.

This milestone builds on a long-standing collaboration that began with pioneering research in 2021, when Centre Léon Bérard conducted the world’s first pilot study evaluating upright positioning for patients with pelvic tumours.

The new installation will support further clinical research across tumour sites, including lung, breast, and head and neck cancers, helping researchers better understand how upright positioning could enhance the patient experience and support more precise, accessible cancer care.

It represents another important step towards bringing upright radiotherapy into routine clinical practice and making cancer treatment more human.

Congratulations to the teams at Centre Léon Bérard, Leo Cancer Care, TheraPanacea and the FEDER Grant, and everyone else who has helped make this possible.
