⚠️ Warning to Small Businesses ⚠️
I’ve debated sharing this, but after three months of stress and frustration, I feel compelled to warn others to protect themselves.
Earlier this year, my team and I completed building work for The Padel Hub at their new Crawley centre. They also operate in Slough, North London, Epsom, and are planning to open in Reading.
The work was urgent, and they needed it done quickly to launch their facilities for members. We pulled out all the stops, worked tirelessly, and delivered the project to a first-class standard. They were thrilled with the quality of our work and even praised our efforts.
However, despite all of this, The Padel Hub has failed to pay the invoice—amounting to over £30,000 for labour and materials.
There is no dispute over the work. They’ve repeatedly assured me that “the money will be in your account by the end of the day,” but those promises have been empty. The Director has ignored all payment requests, including legal notices sent by my solicitor. The matter is now with the courts.
This has been an enormous strain on my business, but another small business might not be so fortunate to survive such a hit. With The Padel Hub planning to open new centres, they will no doubt be looking for builders and other tradesmen. If you’re approached, think twice before doing any work for them and insist on full payment upfront.
