Newly formed Community Panel visits Mill Rig Wind Farm 🀝

Last week, our team welcomed the Mill Rig Community Panel for a behind-the-scenes tour of our six-turbine South Lanarkshire wind farm currently in the final stages of construction.

In what is believed to be a first in Scotland, community panel members from across South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire will oversee how community funds are allocated across two local authority areas when Mill Rig starts generating energy later this year.

The panel members got to see and learn about the 33.4MW site, which will generate around Β£167,000 each year to support community projects across:

βœ… Darvel & District
βœ… Newmilns & Greenholm

Supporting local communities at Strathaven Balloon Festival

We want communities close to our projects to feel the benefits of hosting onshore wind farms, which is why we were proud to sponsor Scotland's only balloon festival at the weekend.

Aileen and Ewan from OnPath, along with Stuart Beattie of Wilson Forest Products, joined thousands of local people enjoying a truly spectacular event!

Developing Together 🀝 James' placement journey

Over the last 12 weeks, we've been joined by James, a placement engineer from Newcastle University, as part of his four-year year MEng Hons Mechanical Engineering course.

James has been working on benchmarking for sustainability and circularity to better inform policy, assisting with the appraisal of early-stage sites and identifying potential risks using GIS software.

At OnPath Energy, we are committed to fostering the growth and development of both our current employees and the future talent entering our industry.

We all wish James the best as he returns to his studies and have no doubt that he has a great career ahead of him.

Sustainability snapshot 🀝 Inspiring the next generation of engineers

OnPath Energy has worked closely with RJ McLeod for many years. As our principal contractor at Mill Rig Wind Farm, they share our values on community engagement and outreach.

More than a decade ago, RJ McLeod delivered a civil engineering talk at a local primary school. One of the students from that talk, Emilia Zalupska now works as a site engineer for RJ McLeod, working on our Mill Rig Wind Farm during construction.

This is just one great example of how our projects can inspire young people and provide them with meaningful, long-term employment in the renewables sector!

In September, some of our team will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of our nominated charities of the year; Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen, and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The challenge tackles 24 miles over three peaks, and the team are aiming to do it under 12 hours.

Construction begins at Common Farm Solar Park β˜€οΈ

A major milestone has been reached at Common Farm Solar Park near Dinnington, South Yorkshire, with construction now underway on OnPath Energy’s first co-located solar and battery storage project.

Once complete, the site is set to:
🏑 Generate enough clean electricity to power up to 18,800 homes
⚑ Support UK energy security
🌿 Deliver significant environmental benefits, including 116 hectares of species-rich grassland and wildflower meadows.
🀝 Provide around £50,000 in community benefits annually

International youth exchange builds confidence and community connections 🌍

Young people from Scotland, Germany and France have come together in South Lanarkshire for a week of cultural exchange, volunteering and personal development, thanks to Β£17,000 from the Renewable Energy Fund, supported by OnPath Energy’s Kype Muir Wind Farm.

Students got to experience a range of activities, which included;

🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Exploring Scottish culture
πŸ““ Developing leadership skills
πŸͺ΅ Giving back to the local community by helping improve the outdoor classroom at Loch Wood in Blackwood.

Building confidence, friendships and lifelong memories formed, the programme highlights the lasting impact community funding can have on young people in rural communities.
