Job Description – Transport & Despatch Supervisor
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Transport & Despatch Supervisor to oversee the efficient movement and despatch of goods within our logistics operations. This role involves supervising despatch activities and department staff, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of materials handling, and experience with despatch management systems. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to process optimisation and team development within a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
• Supervise daily transport and despatch activities, ensuring timely and accurate shipping of goods, oversee accurate picking, packing, labelling and loading of orders and manage issues
• Collaborate with production and planning to facilitate materials handling to avoid despatch issues such as shortages, damages or late orders
• Liaise with transport providers, planners and internal stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery/installation
• Ensure all documentation (delivery notes, manifests, customs paperwork) is accurate and complete
• Lead, supervise and train a team of despatch operatives, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement and manage attendance, performance
• Attend and conduct daily meetings and communicate priorities clearly
• Implement process improvements to optimise logistics workflows, reduce delays, and enhance overall productivity
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations related to heavy lifting, forklift operation, and general warehouse activities
• Monitor shipping & receiving procedures to ensure accuracy and adherence to company standards
• Maintain accurate records of despatch activities, stock movements, and reporting
Qualifications
• Proven experience in despatch or logistics supervision, ideally within manufacturing, engineering or similar industry sector
• Strong knowledge of the UK and International transport regulations
• Proficiency with logistics software systems
• Demonstrated ability in process improvement initiatives within logistics or warehousing environments
• Excellent team management skills with the ability to motivate staff and foster collaboration
• Experience working with third-party logistics providers (3PL) is advantageous
• Good organisational and time management skills with attention to detail in record keeping and reporting. This role is integral to maintaining smooth operations within our logistics department. We seek a proactive leader who can optimise processes while ensuring safety standards are upheld across all activities.
