⚡ PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | AUCHTERAW BESS FACILITY ⚡

We completed the masonry package for Capstone Construction at the Auchteraw Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility. In June 2024 who were working for RJ MacLeod.

Our scope began with establishing a secure and well-organised work area, fully segregated using Heras fencing. We then delivered the traditional masonry construction, comprising an inner leaf of blockwork and an engineering-brick outer leaf.

The package included:

• Inner-leaf blockwork
• Engineering-brick outer leaf
• Installation of Catnic lintels
• DPCs, cavity trays and associated masonry details
• Maintaining a safe, contained and organised working area throughout

Health and safety was central to every stage of this project. Despite some challenging Highland weather, the team maintained strong standards of workmanship, site organisation and safe working throughout the build.

The project was led by John, our Senior Bricklayer, alongside three of our apprentices. Under John’s guidance, the apprentices played a major part in delivering the building and produced a finished result they can all be proud of.

A great example of experienced leadership combined with the development of the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Thank you to Capstone Construction for trusting Callander Construction Ltd with the masonry works on this important energy infrastructure project.

We’d also like to give a mention to Alan Mackay of RJ Macleod whose support, coordination and proactive approach was instrumental in keeping our job running smoothly. His help was greatly appreciated by our team and made a real difference to our overall delivery of the project.

A great project to look back on at Flichity House, completed for 7even Construction.

Callander Construction were appointed to deliver the full masonry package, taking the build from the substructure through to the finished architectural stonework.

Our works included:

• Substructure blockwork
• Superstructure blockwork
• Granite stonework
• Ashlar stonework
• Detailed window surrounds, quoins and architectural features
• Integration of the masonry around the structural steelwork

The combination of dressed granite and ashlar detailing made this a particularly enjoyable project for our team. The feature Ashlar stonework around the openings and traditional architectural features required careful setting out and workmanship throughout supplied dressed and tooled by Tennants Elgin.

Projects like this are a great example of the range within our team — from getting the first blocks out of the ground to delivering the detailed stonework that ultimately defines the finished building.

Morrison Construction – Headquarters Refurbishment - Brickwork 🧱

A great transformation working with Morrison Construction at their own Inverness headquarters.

Our package involved significantly more than replacing the brickwork. The existing facing brickwork was carefully stripped, sections of the inner leaf blockwork removed, and the existing foundations exposed to allow them to be side-pinned and strengthened before reconstruction could begin.

From there, the masonry was rebuilt with the new facing brick outer leaf installed, completely transforming the appearance of the building while retaining and upgrading the existing structure.

The finished building is almost unrecognisable — a cracking example of the type of structural alteration, masonry and refurbishment work our team can deliver from the foundation work right through to the finished façade.

Well done to Morrison’s site team on completing a job that threw out many unforseens I think we can all agree the Headquarters looks the part.

A project we’re very proud to have been involved in and greatly appreciate the team at Morrison Construction trusting us with their own upgrade👌🏼🧱

CCL are looking for a hardworking and reliable Labourer to join our team.

The role will involve:
🔹 Collecting and delivering materials to site
🔹 Stacking kits ahead of our bricklaying squads
🔹 Supporting multiple sites as required
🔹 Responding to requests from our teams and clients for deliveries and materials

This is a reactive role, so flexibility and a good work ethic are essential. No two days are the same, and you’ll play a key part in keeping our sites running efficiently.

✅ Full driving licence preferred
✅ Vehicle, PPE, CSCS card and training provided
✅ Construction experience beneficial but not essential

💷 Rate of pay: To be discussed based on experience.

Congratulations to our apprentice Connor Campbell on passing skills test today ✅

Where to start… Well, this comes as no surprise to any of us, Connor arrived on a crate!! we ordered a grafter and we were delivered a grafter…

Connor is one of these guys that you need to tell to stop, Duracell doesn’t even get a look in…. One day I asked him to wait until I finished my coffee until we started… not on Connors watch!! out he goes.. zero coffee was harmed that morning!!

He has proved himself to be a great asset, he is extremely reliable, can build stonework, blockwork, brickwork, lay concrete you name it, he will also be just as happy dressing stone all day nothing phases him, he gets on well with everyone, just an all round great guy, well done Connor 🧱

You’ll be wanting a pay rise now 🤬😂

Hard to believe this is the same wall, our Lads Aonghas & Ryan making great progress up in Gledfield on the steading with the pointing works in full swing, this is just a small clip of the works with the entire steading having had reinstament and structural works completed to maintain the integrity ensuring the building is safe and ready for the next stage
