Last week, our Chief Strategy Officer, Barry Carruthers, joined a roundtable hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce with Stephen Gethins MSP, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Energy.

Bringing together representatives from a range of sectors across the North-east, the discussion explored some of the key challenges and opportunities facing businesses and the wider regional economy.

Topics included regional growth and investment, energy security and transition, infrastructure, skills and workforce, and the future of the energy sector.

This was the second engagement between Global and the Minister in recent months, reflecting the breadth of Global’s work across several energy sectors, including renewables, transmission and oil & gas, as well as our role in supporting jobs and investment across Scotland.

The Onshore Wind Conference 2026 takes place at the EICC in Edinburgh on 1-2 September, bringing together the industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of onshore wind.

As part of the programme, our Chief Strategy Officer, Barry Carruthers, will join the panel for Session 7B: Keeping projects moving – overcoming the practical challenges of onshore wind delivery on 2 September, 1:00-1:45pm.

The session will explore the practical challenges of delivering increasingly complex onshore wind projects, and what the industry can do to improve coordination, reduce delays and support the continued growth of onshore wind across the UK and Scotland.

During the session, Barry will present on how Global brings together specialist expertise and connected capability across onshore wind projects, from environmental and consenting through to civils, electrical infrastructure, turbine installation, lifting, maintenance, logistics and decommissioning, supporting delivery safely, efficiently and at scale.

Global has launched Global Commissioning, the latest example of building connected capability that genuinely supports our clients and the sectors we support.

The new Aberdeen-based business will deliver commissioning, completions, start-up, handover and operational readiness support across multiple sectors, informed by unrivalled engineering and project delivery expertise.

Commissioning has traditionally been seen as the final part of a project. Global Commissioning will get involved from tendering right through to delivery and handover, bringing right-to-left thinking and a complete vision for the project.

Led by Ben Rushton, who brings 15 years’ experience in the field, the team has already secured contracts for two key clients and is actively recruiting, targeting a headcount of 25 by year-end.

As the project reaches another significant milestone, that's how our Chief Strategy Officer, Barry Carruthers, describes Global's new headquarters at Inverness Campus.

With lifting support from our crane fleet, one of the most complete and comprehensive in the UK, the installation of the major plant and equipment on the concealed rooftop plant deck is now complete. This allows the building services to be fully connected, with early testing and commissioning set to commence ahead of full energisation, keeping the project on track for completion later this year.

Externally, the distinctive façade is nearing completion, with the complex south-facing elevation now receiving its bespoke cladding panels, creating the distinctive pixelated finish that defines the main entrance, while inside, the building fabric and interior fit-out continue to gather pace.

Commenting on the progress, Barry said: "Global's new head office at is about as big a statement as you can make. It's symbolic of the opportunities we want to create for our people, our group of businesses, and the next generation of talent on our doorstep who live, work and study in the Highlands. It's a flagship and a champion for what is to come."

Global is expanding its connected capability with a new investment: a majority stake in Prism Energy. This acquisition strengthens our offering and supports our push to deliver the joined-up, end-to-end solutions clients are increasingly looking for.

Founded by Andy Sutherland in 2015, Prism Energy is the creator of Prism Apps, a project management software platform widely adopted across the energy sector. The company also provides project management and controls consultancy services, including planning, estimating and risk management.

Gordon Farmer, Board Director, Global commented: “Andy Sutherland and his team have earned an excellent reputation in the project management sector - particularly across the energy markets - and Prism Energy are at the forefront of a quickly evolving market for digital project management tools and support."
