Having been very busy over the last 12 months, manufacturing and installing its first 8.7 meter wide primary film slitter rewinder, Ashe Converting Equipment has not rested in its continuing its round of innovation.

The 8.7 meter wide Jade has many unique features which include direct drive torque motors. Unique automatic knife, and automatic arm setting systems are just some items customers are realising Ashe can offer, above their normal machine requirements.

Another variation of their established DB Sapphire range of machines has been delivered to South Africa. The moving carriage design keeping constant web path length and its unique length compensation roller has been a feature of the DB since its inception in 1995. The Sapphire DB with linear carriage has been supplied to the medical, clean room, automotive and general converting industries. The latest machine has a lift out design allowing full size roll rewinding as well as precision slitting using differential shafts.

Ashe has new machines in development that will again move the goalposts for the duplex slitting machine market. Its main thrust is to simplify the setting and adjustments that operators are required to do to change jobs. A no set, automatic adjustment design philosophy is being adopted on newly designed machines to allow maximum productivity, that is sometimes compromised on over complicated machines. This approach has been taken on the complete range of equipment offered by ASHE Converting Equipment.

Low energy consumption, always a feature of Ashe machines is also being optimized. With very low at rest consumption and regenerative energy control, the running costs are kept to a minimum.

Ashe is to launch the Opal 3 Spindle Turret Rewind Series at Labelexpo Americas 2012.

Ashe Converting Equipment will, for the first time, be demonstrating the concepts of the new all motor driven 3 spindle in-line turret rewind model, the OETR16. The unit will be seen running the new eco-friendly label-stock material from UPM Raflatac during the show.

The system can operate in-line with any form of existing production process, allowing non-stop roll form finishing of self adhesive labels.

It uses hot melt gluing technology to apply the material lanes to cores as well as closing the tails of the completed reels to be automatically offloaded out of the machine for packing.

Ashe has designed the unit based around minimal operator set up time from job to job. This is achieved by altering the turret position automatically to the core size to be run rather than having to change all the mechanical aspects of glue bath and bump cut assemblies.

Direct motor drives to each of the 3 rewind positions allow for smooth running with no clutch driven assemblies to be maintained or replaced at any time. The special tension control as well as the lightweight design of the bump knife to cut the material at line speed gives this entry level, high speed finishing machine benefits to increase single pass label production outputs.

The turret rewind will be coupled to a standard Opal 16” wide slitter rewinder which can also be demonstrated on the booth during the show.
