Quick update relating to our recent post about new laws with smoke alarms coming into force in February. This is incredibly important, your insurance could potentially NOT pay out after the law comes into force.

The law on fire alarms is changing from February 2022 which means all Scottish homes will need to have interlinked alarms. Guidance for homeowners on what you need to know.

Should you set thermostats on individual radiators, rather than using the main thermostat to control all of them?

It's best to have as many controls as possible, so you're in charge of the way you want your home to be heated. Installing thermostatic radiator valves and using them with your thermostat could save at least £75 per year according to the Energy Saving Trust.

It recommends using the thermostat to control the heat in your main living space and using thermostatic radiator valves to lower the heating in rooms you don't use as often.

Might not be a huge saving however, better in your pocket than your suppliers!

Are you aware of the new laws coming into force in February?

Major changes to the fire safety laws in Scotland start from February 2022 due to the Grenfell tragedy in 2017.

If you fail to make the changes in time and you have a fire after February 2022, your home insurer could refuse to payout 🤦🏼‍♂️😳🔥

The new regulations require all homes in Scotland to have interlinked fire/smoke and heat detection units fitted as well as additional carbon monoxide protection if your home uses any type of gas-powered appliances. Our package provides complete protection and are compliant with the new regulations

The law will require that at least one smoke alarm should be installed in the room that is most frequently used, one additional alarm in each circulation space such as your hall or landing, a heat detector in every kitchen and a Carbon Monoxide detector beside your boiler.

Carbon monoxide detectors will also be required if you have gas appliances such as a boiler or a gas cooker.

With your gas appliances it’s important to look out for these warning signs. If you spot any of them, you’ll want to get your gas appliance serviced straight away:

* Your appliance isn’t working properly
* It produces a floppy yellow flame rather than a crisp blue one
* Black/brown marks on or around the appliance
* The boiler pilot light keeps going out
* Increased condensation inside the windows

We got called out to an emergency boiler repair a few days ago. The boiler was overdue a service. You can see the difference from old to new electrodes that was causing the issue.

The old seal was literally falling apart as well. The boiler is back working again and is safe 💪 🆘 🥶🥵 don’t leave servicing your boiler until it’s too late.

What a difference with this job 🙌🏻

An install we finished a few days ago to a house that’s recently been bought. An old extremely inefficient fire and back boiler has been removed and replaced with an Ideal Vogue 32kw boiler.

All the old water tanks stripped out, new gas pipe run to new location for the boiler and a vertical flue fitted.

This will significantly improve heat output, efficiency and create a huge space saved by getting rid of all the old tanks.

The space that the old system took up will be open plan allowing an area for the kids to have their PS4 set up.

The savings with the new boiler will pay for itself as well as an all round better system 🔥🙌🏻💪 🥵
