🚛 44 TONNES DOESN’T STOP BECAUSE YOU WANT IT TO

Some people still don’t get it.

Cutting in front of a car might save you five seconds.
Cutting in front of a fully-loaded HGV could cost someone their life.

At 56–60mph:

A car needs around 73 metres to stop.

A 44-tonne truck needs well over double that — and even then it’s fighting physics.

That gap in front of a lorry?
It’s not an invitation.
It’s not a shortcut.
It’s not “room for one more.”

It’s braking space.
It’s reaction time.
It’s the difference between a close call and a fatality.

💥 When you dive into that gap, you’re not being clever —
you’re betting your life against 44 tonnes of steel and momentum.

HGVs don’t stop instantly.
They don’t swerve like cars.
They don’t get “one more chance.”

They flatten what’s in front of them.
That’s not aggression —
that’s pure physics.

So next time you see a truck:

📏 Give them space.
🧠 Think before you move.
❤️ Remember someone is waiting for that driver to come home too.

You don’t get a second chance at 44 tonnes.

Respect it.
Protect it.

As a gesture of appreciation to Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and the dedicated crew at Kirkby Lonsdale Fire Station, contractors L&W Wilson - EndmoorLtd have kindly donated an incredible £3,000 to the Fire Fighters Charity.

Following the tragic fire in Kirkby Lonsdale last December, the firm was appointed to demolish dangerous structures and stabilise and shore up the remaining shopfronts to enable the reopening of the main street.

Throughout these challenging works, Kirkby Lonsdale firefighters played a vital supporting role, including extinguishing recurring hotspots, preventing further outbreaks of fire, and supplying water used to weigh down scaffolding structures that were holding the listed building safely in place.

Alan, Nadim and AJ from L&W Wilson formally presented a cheque to the station crew and Alan Firth representing the charity.

Pete Kavanagh, Station Manager for Kirkby Lonsdale, said: “This is an incredibly kind and generous gesture from Alan and the team at Wilsons.

“Their donation is greatly appreciated, as the Firefighters Charity relies entirely on public donations and fundraising events to continue its vital work supporting firefighters and their families – both physically and mentally – in times of need.”
