Victorian House Renovation & Extension | Abingdon Road, Oxford 🏗️

A closer look at one of our current Victorian house renovation projects in Oxford, where DKM Builders Oxford Ltd is acting as Principal Contractor for a substantial transformation of this terraced property.

Pictured is Albie Meziu, Managing Director of DKM Builders Oxford Ltd, carrying out a site inspection and reviewing the structural steelwork before we progress to the next stages of construction.

For those looking closely at the structural details: the steel beams shown are supported on structural steel bearing plates. Each critical stage of the works is checked as construction progresses, with Building Control inspections carried out at the required stages before elements are closed up or subsequent works proceed.

This project involves two rear extensions, major structural alterations and a full renovation of the existing Victorian house throughout.

It is also a particularly challenging Oxford site due to the very restricted access associated with this type of Victorian terraced property. Logistics, deliveries, waste removal and sequencing therefore need to be carefully managed from the outset.

The project required an extended pre-construction and planning process, including additional requirements relating to flood risk, so it is good to have the team fully mobilised and progressing on site.

We work closely with the architects, structural engineers and Building Control, while our management team regularly inspects the project to ensure the architectural and structural requirements are being followed and the standard of construction remains where it should be.

A look inside one of our major residential projects on Hayward Road, Oxford, as the property moves through the final stages towards completion.

This project has involved an extensive transformation of the home, with substantial building works and a carefully considered finish throughout. Roof Strip-Out Under Temporary Roof | North Oxford

Progress is well underway on another high-end residential refurbishment in North Oxford.

Today our team worked alongside the licensed ecologist, carefully opening the required sections of the roof and soffits to allow a full bat inspection before the main demolition continues. Protecting wildlife and complying with ecological requirements is a key part of delivering projects professionally and responsibly.

With the temporary scaffold roof in place, we can now continue the roof strip-out safely while keeping the property protected from the weather.

Less than four weeks on site, and another major milestone achieved.

Progress on our North Oxford loft conversion continues at pace, with the loft structure now complete, the new roof fully tiled, Velux roof windows installed, the staircase fitted and plasterboarding substantially completed. The temporary roof has done its job protecting the property throughout the structural phase and is now coming down as we move into the next stage of the project.

One of the details we’re particularly pleased with is the new staircase. Carefully designed and manufactured to complement the original staircase, it creates a seamless transition between the existing home and the new loft conversion, preserving the character of the property while adding valuable new living space.

With the loft now watertight and progressing rapidly internally, our team will shortly begin the next phase of this comprehensive residential project, commencing work on the ground floor rear extension and side extension. This phased approach allows us to maintain momentum while minimising disruption for our clients.

Building a house is one thing. Helping a family create a home where they’ll make lifelong memories is something completely different.
