As the kids head back to school and a new term begins, it feels like we’re starting a new chapter at Harrisons too.

As a business leader, one of the things I’m most proud of isn’t simply how much the business has grown — it’s the team we’re building around it 📈.

I’ve always believed that the best businesses attract great people, but more importantly, they create a culture where great people want to stay, grow and succeed together.

Last week we welcomed Kat and Danny to Harrisons, joining Beth, Joanne, Chris, Matt, Jim and Richard, as we continue to strengthen the business and prepare for our next stage of growth 💙.

This certainly isn’t the whole Harrisons team — just a snapshot taken on Kat and Danny’s first day — but it captures a pretty exciting moment for us.

Growth inevitably brings change: new people, new ideas, new opportunities… and occasionally the need to find a few more chairs around the table! 😄

For me, leadership is about surrounding yourself with good people, giving them the opportunity to shine and building something that people genuinely want to be part of.

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes at Harrisons, and it really does feel like we’re only just getting started.

And we’ve been absolutely BURSTING to announce this one… 👀🎉

We are incredibly excited to officially welcome Danny Thompson⁩ to the Harrison’s team as our new Group Business Development Manager! 🚀💙

Those of you in the PPE and RPE world may already know Danny — and if you do, you’ll understand exactly why we’re so excited to have him onboard!

A local guy with extensive experience across the PPE and RPE industry, Danny brings a huge amount of knowledge, experience, connections and energy to Harrison’s.

And the timing couldn’t be better…

There is SO much happening at Harrison’s right now. New premises. New people. New opportunities. Big plans. And quite a bit more that we’re not ready to tell you about just yet… 👀🤐

Danny joining us is a massive part of that next chapter, and we genuinely cannot wait to see him get stuck in, make the role his own and WATCH HIM FLY! 🚀

🎉 Welcome to the team, Kathryn! 🎉

We’re delighted to welcome our newest team member, Kathryn (Kat), who joins us as our Customer Service Advisor. 💙

With our workload continuing to grow, Kat will be working alongside Beth and Joanne, helping with the smooth day-to-day running of the office and making sure we continue to provide the best possible service to our customers.

From face fit testing and RPE servicing, to equipment supply and hire, Kat will be helping to coordinate enquiries, bookings and orders and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

There’s lots to learn, but we’re really pleased to have another pair of hands on board!

Well, this was an unexpected find on a family day out! 😂

We visited the newly reopened Hull Maritime Museum today and, wandering around the exhibits, I spotted something that definitely made me stop in my tracks…

Harrison’s of Hull! 💙

Apparently, between 1848–89, Harrison’s had a shop on Dock Street near Queen’s Dock, selling stores and equipment for sailing ships.

I genuinely had absolutely no idea! 😂

Fast forward nearly 180 years and there’s another Harrisons of Hull supplying protective equipment to businesses in Hull and much further afield😉. Completely unrelated, as far as I know… but I couldn’t resist the photo! Maybe the name was destined for supplying equipment after all. 😂

And then, because apparently I can’t even have a family day out without being drawn towards respiratory protection, I spotted these old Martindale protective masks used by dock workers in the 1970s and 80s. 😍

Safe to say RPE has come on quite a bit since then! Although I probably spent far longer looking at these than the rest of the family did. 🤓

A brilliant museum and a really lovely reminder of Hull’s maritime and industrial history — with a couple of unexpected connections to my working life thrown in!

And yes… we fully embraced the dressing up too. 😂⚓️

📣 WE’RE HIRING – ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT! 📣

We’re looking for a friendly, organised and confident Administration Assistant to join our busy team at Harrisons Respiratory Protection in Hull.

The role can be PART TIME OR FULL TIME, with some flexibility around hours for the right person.

You’ll be working as part of our small, friendly team and helping to keep the day-to-day running of the business organised. The role will include:

📅 Coordinating technician diaries and appointments
📞 Answering calls and dealing with customer enquiries
🤝 Liaising with customers and suppliers
📝 Preparing quotations and processing orders
🧾 Helping with invoices and general administration
💙 Supporting the wider team wherever needed

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. We pride ourselves on the service we give our customers, so we’re looking for someone who is friendly, professional and genuinely enjoys dealing with people.

It’s an exciting time to join Harrisons. We’re an award-winning, growing business with a close-knit team and plenty happening as we move into the next stage of our growth.

Experience in a similar role would be great, but finding the right person to fit our team is just as important to us.
