From thick old paint to clean timber again 👌

These architraves came in with years of paint build-up hiding all the detail. The before-and-after split shows exactly what proper stripping can reveal — sharp mouldings, clean grain, and timber ready for sanding, waxing, oiling or repainting.

We strip architrave, skirting, frames, doors, furniture and more.

Architrave stripping £3 per foot - same as anything linear, bannisters, hand rails, skirting, etc.

✨ A bit of a long-term before-and-after on this one… almost a year in the making! ✨

Back in 2025 we were asked to strip the original timber legs from a set of full-size snooker tables destined for a major refurbishment at Monica Sports Club, Alexandra Road, Hull.

These huge, heavily carved legs arrived with years of old finishes and coatings built up over them. After careful stripping and cleaning, the natural timber grain hidden underneath was revealed once again, ready for the next stage of their transformation.

Fast forward nearly a year, and the club is preparing to reopen. Seeing these same tables back together in their striking new black and gold colour scheme makes all the hard work worthwhile. 🎱

It’s always satisfying when a project comes full circle, especially one on this scale. From a pile of stripped components in our yard to centrepieces in a freshly refurbished snooker club – they look absolutely fantastic. 👌

Best of luck to everyone at Monica Snooker Club with the reopening. We can’t wait to see the finished venue in full swing! 🍻🎱

📸 Swipe through for the transformation.

🔥 This old door has clearly lived a life before it arrived with us…

You can tell straight away it’s been stripped in the past — and not by modern methods 👀 The dark scorching marks and uneven burn patterns are classic signs of old-school flame stripping, where layers of paint would’ve been heated with a blow lamp or gas torch before being scraped back by hand 🔥🪵

Long before modern dipping tanks, infrared systems or safer chemical methods, this was how decorators and restorers brought doors back to bare wood. It’s not something you see often nowadays, but every now and then a door comes through the workshop carrying its own little bit of history 🏡✨

Every mark, scorch, dent and repair tells part of the story of the homes and people it’s been through over the decades.

That’s one of the things we love most about this job ❤️ These aren’t just bits of timber — they’re pieces of craftsmanship that have survived generations. Old growth pine, hand-built joinery, layers of paint from different eras, old repairs, old techniques… every door is different 🛠️

Sometimes you’re not just stripping paint — you’re uncovering history 👌📜

A proper restoration job this one over in Keighley.

These aren’t modern hollow section railings churned out in a factory — this is genuine Victorian blacksmith work from a completely different era. Every section was made from solid bar, with hand-forged components throughout. No welding either, because when these were made welding as we know it today didn’t exist. Everything was traditionally threaded, collared, riveted and bolted together by a skilled smith. Real craftsmanship that’s survived well over 100 years.

The property itself has some serious history too — originally the headquarters of a town gas works on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The railings and gates were all set directly into the stonework using molten lead, exactly how they would have been installed in Victorian times.

Removing them without damaging the stone took a full day on its own. Careful controlled heat was needed to soften and release the old lead rather than simply smashing them out and destroying the masonry.

Once stripped back, the real work started. Old wrought and high-carbon steels behave very differently to modern mild steel and can’t just be attacked with a MIG welder. The carbon content and impurities from the original forging process make them prone to cracking and brittle welds if repaired incorrectly.

Every repair was done properly using specialist rods, controlled pre-heating and careful cooling procedures to stop stress fractures and preserve the integrity of the metal. A huge amount of fabrication work then went into getting everything straight, square and back to a standard we were genuinely happy with.

The gates themselves had dropped badly over the years and were completely out of alignment. Old fixing holes were welded and reworked before new holes were drilled so the gates could be rehung perfectly true.

Refitting alone took 11 hours. The original lead fixings were replaced with a modern structural resin anchoring system for maximum long-term strength, carefully colour matched to blend into the existing stonework and keep the traditional appearance intact.

Finished off with a modern multi-stage paint system to give these another generation of life while still keeping all the character and history intact.

This is the sort of work we love doing — preserving proper old engineering instead of replacing it with cheap modern equivalents. The quality in these old railings is something you just don’t see anymore.

Our close friend Mike is taking on an unbelievable challenge for an unbelievable cause. On 22nd May he’ll be running an incredible 200 miles from the MKM Stadium in Hull all the way to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) — a su***de prevention charity helping people through some of the darkest moments of their lives. CALM provides life-saving support, helplines and mental health resources to anyone struggling.

This isn’t just about running. It’s about raising awareness, starting conversations, and helping people realise they’re never alone. 200 miles is an absolutely brutal distance, both physically and mentally, but Mike is putting himself through it to try and help save lives.

If you can spare anything at all, no matter how small, please consider donating. Even a couple of pounds can make a difference when enough people come together behind a great cause ❤️

Let’s get behind him and show some support for an incredible effort 👏

A bit of everything through the workshop this today 👌

We’ve fabricated some bespoke gate furniture completely from scratch to suit a Victorian gate restoration project. Sometimes there simply isn’t an off-the-shelf option for heritage work, so it has to be made the old fashioned way 🔨⚒️

Alongside that, these beautiful live edge garden furniture pieces have been fully stripped back, refurbished and treated with oil to really bring the grain and character back to life 🌳

We’ve also got this Edwardian drawer currently going through restoration. The drawer itself has been stripped, while the original k**b is being carefully cleaned by hand to remove the paint without damaging the original dark varnish underneath — slow work, but worth doing properly 👍

From Victorian ironwork to Edwardian furniture and modern live edge pieces, every job gets approached differently depending on what the item needs.

First stage complete on this lovely old set of gates and railings.

This project started with the careful removal of the original metalwork, including extracting the old stubs that had been traditionally leaded into the stone caps — all without damaging the surrounding masonry. That’s the sort of detail that puts a lot of firms off, but it’s exactly the kind of restoration work we specialise in.

These are now ready for the next stages: stripping, spraying and then full refitting back on site.

Plenty more to come on this one — the transformation should be a good one 👌

Message us if you’ve got old gates, railings or fencing that need restoring properly.
