Men’s Health Month 2026

June marks Men’s Health Month, a time to raise awareness of both physical and mental wellbeing and to encourage open conversations around health.

In industries such as construction and engineering, these conversations can sometimes be overlooked. However, taking the time to check in with yourself and those around you can make a real difference.

At Van Elle, we’re committed to creating a culture where people feel supported, encouraged to speak openly, and able to access help when they need it. Whether it’s taking time to look after your mental health, attending regular health checks, or simply having a conversation with a colleague, small actions matter.

As part of Men’s Health Week, we will be sharing wellbeing resources and support across the business to help encourage open conversations and remind everyone that help is always available.

Let’s continue to look out for one another and prioritise wellbeing - on-site, in the office, and at home.

Van Elle Delivers Major Ground Improvement Package at Indurent Park, Newport

Our Ground Improvement team have completed a significant ground improvement package at Indurent Park Newport, currently the largest new-build industrial and logistics development under construction in Wales.

Delivered on behalf of Glencar Construction, the project involved the installation of 12,488 No. 320mm diameter rigid inclusions across five new industrial units within the 100-acre development, supporting pad foundations and ground-bearing floor slabs.

The solution was designed to address challenging ground conditions associated with the former Llanwern steelworks site, where made ground and soft tidal flat deposits overlay Mercia Mudstone at depths of 11–12m. Rigid inclusions were selected to provide efficient and sustainable foundation solutions for the scheme.

Throughout the 10-week programme, the team overcame significant ground obstructions, including existing piles and rebar across the site. To maintain productivity and minimise tooling wear, works were supported by pre-boring rigs alongside three rigid inclusion rigs operating across the development.

Indurent Park Newport forms part of the wider Glan Llyn Regeneration, a landmark 600-acre transformation helping reshape the area into a major commercial and employment destination.

The completed development will deliver high-quality Grade-A industrial and logistics accommodation, targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+ ratings, with infrastructure designed to support photovoltaic roof coverage and electric vehicle charging.

A fantastic achievement by the Ground Improvement team, whose efforts helped successfully deliver another major regeneration project for Van Elle.

Van Elle Completes Key Infrastructure Upgrade Works at Deighton Station on Behalf of Bam Nuttall.

Our teams have successfully completed piling and rail infrastructure works at Deighton Station as part of the wider The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) scheme.

The station is currently closed and will remain shut until 2027 while it undergoes a major reconstruction programme designed to modernise the station and deliver full step-free access for passengers.

Initially appointed to support the construction of the new footbridge and lift infrastructure, our Specialist Piling team completed the installation of 12 No. 450mm CFA piles to depths up to 11 metres during both day and night blockade possessions.

Following on from these works, our Rail team successfully delivered the installation of 48 No. FKD600/6 trench sheets to form a cofferdam for the new station platform lift shaft.

Delivered within blockade works and utilising a tracked Colmar T10000FSC fitted with Daedong and torque head attachments, the team undertook pre-augering operations using 450mm augers to pe*****te hard ground conditions ahead of the trench sheet installation works.

Operating within a highly constrained rail environment with restricted access and tight possession windows, the works required detailed planning, close coordination, and efficient ex*****on throughout. Despite the logistical challenges, both phases of the project were delivered safely and in line with programme requirements.

Van Elle Continue to Advance the UK’s Energy Infrastructure

Significant progress continues to be made on the Argyll foundation package, delivered as part of contribution to the UK’s national energy infrastructure upgrade.

Throughout the works, the team have demonstrated strong adaptability in managing a range of technical and logistical considerations including working within a remote location requiring effective site coordination, particularly around deliveries and access. Through proactive management and strong on-site leadership, the team has continued to maintain steady progress and high standards of delivery.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside United Infrastructure on this project, with strong collaboration playing a key role in driving progress, as highlighted by Thomas Cafferkey, Construction Manager at United Infrastructure:

“It's reassuring to United Infrastructure having Van Elle on board for this major project. Any queries we have from design to installation are rapidly and professionally resolved. It's easy to see that the teams on site have a passion for their trade as well as years of experience. This presents itself with the piling works being ahead of schedule, as per design and with zero incidents.

“Sometimes the OHL industry can overlook all of the vital civil works that come first and enable the next stages of the project to shine, but I believe it's a necessity to appreciate & highlight the quality works done by Van Elle and other civils contractors across the project. Keep up the good works. “

We look forward to building on this collaboration as works continue across the remaining towers.

Civils Works Completed at TRU Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury ✅

A few months on from completion, we are pleased to highlight the successful delivery of civils works at The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Ravensthorpe site in Dewsbury, following the piling operations undertaken by our General Piling team.

A total of 490 No. piles were installed, comprising a combination of 250 x 250 mm precast concrete piles and steel driven tube piles ranging from 230 mm to 275 mm in diameter.

These works were carried out in support of the SFC Building and FS Compound as part of the BAM-delivered Transpennine Route Upgrade programme.

Following completion of the piling works, our Civils team undertook the excavation and cropping of the precast piles, finishing each with crack ring and grout details.

The steel tube piles were cut down to the required level, filled with pea gravel, and concreted up to the specified cut-off level where required.

The successful delivery of both the piling and associated civils works enabled continuity across the programme and ensured follow-on contractors were able to commence in line with planned timescales.

This project demonstrates the value of our integrated delivery model, combining specialist piling expertise with complementary civils capabilities to provide efficient, high-quality solutions for our clients.

Screwfast Progress at South Shields Substation ⚡

The first phase of works at South Shields Substation has been completed, supporting National Grid’s upgrade programme to install Power Flow Control (PFC) technology and enhance network capacity and efficiency.

Working on behalf of Omexom UK, this phase involved installing 541 No. helical piles of varying diameters and depths, 114 No. steel grillages, 45 No. floating top-hat steel frames, 8No. working test piles and 3 No. sacrificial test piles.

These installations provide the foundations for a range of substation structures, contributing directly to the successful implementation of PFC technology and improved network performance.

Komatsu PC138 and PC228 excavators were used, supported by a Komatsu PC360 for the larger-diameter gantry piles, ensuring both precision and efficiency.

Further visits are planned for later in 2026 and again in 2027 during planned power outages to complete the works.

All helical piles and steel grillages have been fully fabricated in-house, with the full scope now ready for installation later this year and in 2027, ensuring quality, precision, and timely delivery.

This solution provides immediate load-bearing capability, allowing follow-on construction to proceed without delay. Its reusable, low-impact design combines efficiency, safety, and sustainability, delivering a robust foundation system suitable for a wide range of projects and site conditions.
