Tecsound is a vibration-dampening membrane so a great addition to add to the side of I beams when soundproofing a ceiling. You then look to float the ceiling below the beams and avoid any contact. In most cases, you will have to build a stud frame around the beam to fix your plasterboard however in this situation, I was able to fix 2 layers of acoustic plasterboard straight into the MuteClip channel to keep the ceiling height.

Should you remove the dot and dab the plasterboard before soundproofing?
Yes, ideally the dot and dab plasterboard is removed first, especially if there is a deep cavity.
You can also cut away the thickness of the soundproof system from the adjacent dot and dab walls to reduce the flanking sound and seal against the external walls.

When soundproofing this chimney breast, we replaced a section of the first layer of 15mm acoustic plasterboard with 15mm ply.
This will give a very similar performance but allow you the get a better fixing into the wall with ease.

Soundproofing a wall is usually completed inside 1 day to minimise disruption.

These pictures were taken to illustrate the process of the installation from the bare wall to newly plastered soundproof wall, all that’s left is a lick of paint!

This is why you always check for flanking sound!

This wall was in a prefabricated concrete semi and the party wall did not connect to the external wall. It was so bad I could put my hand through to next door!

To reduce the flanking, we filled this gap with 60kg/m3 mineral wool, wedged 15mm Acoustic plasterboard and sealed the party wall against the external wall with layers of Tecsound. All layers of the 'MuteClip System' were then also sealed against the external wall. Finally, the stud frame was re-build for the external wall, filled with 60kg/m3 mineral wool, re-boarded and skimmed.

This customer had a very noisy neighbour playing music from their boom box but is over the moon with the reduction achieved....

Floor Soundproofing using a vibration dampening membrane and a 3-layer MLV and closed cell foam system at a total of 22.5kg/m2 and 17mm thick.

You can achieve a noticeable improvement within a slim line system due to the de-coupled high mass materials. The multiple layers also ensure an airtight seal throughout the room.

This high-performance system is called the MuteMat 3 plus from ikoustic and improves both impact and airborne sound.
