Programming complex wire EDM operations manually can be time-consuming.

From defining the wire path and managing lead-ins and lead-outs to ensuring accurate cuts across intricate profiles, even small inefficiencies can impact productivity.

As manufacturers look to streamline programming workflows and maintain precision, having the right tools in place becomes essential.

In our latest article, we explore how Wire EDM programming in 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA simplifies the process with dedicated machining strategies, intuitive programming tools, and digital continuity within a connected manufacturing environment. The result is faster programming, improved accuracy, and greater confidence from design through to production.

Programming the whole part again for a few missed areas doesn't make much sense.

A larger tool removes material quickly, but smaller pockets, corners, and fine details can often be left behind. Re-machining whole regions to reach these areas adds unnecessary machining time and increases tool wear.

As components become more complex, manufacturers need a more targeted approach.

In our latest article, we explore how rework areas in 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA automatically identifies remaining material from previous operations, allowing programmers to machine only the areas that require attention. The result is more efficient machining, reduced cycle times, and less tool wear.

🚨 Can You Spot the CAD Mistake?

This model looks perfectly fine at first glance...

But there's a sketch in the tree that's raising a red flag.

Can you spot the issue, bonus points if you explain why it matters?

Not every machining operation goes to plan.

A tool breaks, a feature is missed, or an area fails inspection and needs to be re-machined. These aren't unusual challenges. They're part of everyday manufacturing.

What often matters is how quickly the issue can be resolved. Reprogramming an entire operation to correct a small section of a part can waste valuable time and add unnecessary complexity.

Many manufacturers are now looking for smarter ways to focus only on the areas that need attention.

In our latest article, we explore how Rework Areas in 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA allow programmers to isolate and machine specific regions of a part, helping reduce rework effort and improve efficiency.

TECH TIP: One of the most powerful additions in SWOOD 2026 is Free Machining, a feature that gives users greater flexibility and control when defining machining operations.
Traditionally, machining operations within a SWOOD Box were projected onto its standard faces. With Free Machining, operations can now be defined directly by the orientation of the sketch plane, allowing machining to follow the true design intent.

- Machine on any plane, in any direction
- Perfectly suited for angled and complex geometries
- Greater control over machining strategies
- Seamlessly integrates with advanced design shapes

This enhancement makes it easier than ever to create and manufacture complex furniture and joinery projects without being constrained by traditional machining directions.

By allowing machining operations to follow custom sketch planes, Free Machining ensures your manufacturing process stays aligned with your design, reducing workarounds and improving efficiency.

Machining shouldn't feel this repetitive.

A part has 20 identical components nested on one sheet. A fl**ge needs the same pocket cut six times around its centre. A symmetrical component needs the same feature mirrored onto its opposite face.

None of these are unusual machining challenges. They're everyday geometry.

What often changes is how much time gets spent recreating a toolpath that already works, feature by feature, setup by setup. Consistency becomes harder to guarantee when the same strategy is rebuilt by hand each time, and programming time gets eaten up by repetition rather than optimisation.

At some point, many manufacturers take a step back and consider whether their programming approach is keeping pace with how repetitive their parts actually are.

We've explored this topic in our latest article, covering how the Copy Transformation Instruction tool in 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA lets you translate, rotate, mirror, and reapply toolpaths across matching geometry in seconds.

TECH TIP: Think Outside the Box with SWOOD Box Out of the Box

SWOOD Box Out of the Box makes it easy to design projects that go beyond traditional rectangular geometry.

By introducing additional reference points, SWOOD Box can now adapt to angled and non-cubic spaces while maintaining the same simple drag-and-drop workflow you've always used. Simply insert the SWOOD Box and select the additional reference elements to further define its shape.

In the example above, a shelf SWOOD Box is inserted into a cabinet with an angled top. Using these reference points, the shelves automatically adapt to the cabinet geometry, ensuring a perfect fit within the available space.
- Easy to use
- Supports angled and non-cubic designs
- Remains fully parametric and dynamic

Just like a standard SWOOD Box, any changes made to the cabinet will automatically update the shelves, helping you design faster and reduce manual rework.

You can find examples of SWOOD Box Out of the Box in the Library Installer and start testing the functionality today!

Looking to streamline your furniture or joinery design workflow? We'd be happy to help.
