Road bikes v e-bikes. The debate has begun.

On 10th September, this year’s Queens Roundtable ride gets underway, and there’s already something of a split in the camp.

On one side, the traditionalists. Legs, lungs and an unwavering belief that an electric motor is morally questionable.

On the other, the e-bike contingent, arriving suspiciously fresh at the top of hills and insisting that they’re “still pedalling”.

The arguments may continue all the way to Holland, but thankfully there is one thing all 14 riders agree on: raising as much as possible for St Gemma’s Hospice.

We’ll be covering more than 300 miles for a cause that means a huge amount to the group.

Three weeks to go... 😅

On 10th September, 14 riders with a combined age of 749 will set off on more than 300 miles of cycling to the Netherlands and back.

Yes, you read that correctly. 749 years between them.

The Queens Roundtable Cycling Group will once again be taking on the miles in support of St Gemma’s Hospice, a cause that has meant a huge amount to the group throughout more than 25 years of rides.

Training is underway. Knees are being assessed. Sudocrem supplies are being quietly increased.

And, most importantly, we’re hoping to raise as much as possible for St Gemma’s before we set off.

Our second full-house renovation and retrofit project in North Leeds has reached some major milestones over the past few weeks.

A huge effort from the Inspired Builds team has seen all of the existing stonework carefully repointed, giving both the front and rear elevations a real lift.

The new Passivhaus-standard windows are also now being installed throughout the property, with the ground floor complete and work continuing upstairs.

Inside, plastering is underway across the upper floors, which is really starting to bring the spaces together.

Over the next few weeks, the project will begin to make that big shift from building site to home, and we’re looking forward to sharing the next stage of progress.

We’re doing it again. 🚴

On 10th September, the Queens Roundtable Cycling Group will be getting back in the saddle for our latest charity ride, taking on more than 300 miles to the Netherlands and back in support of St Gemma’s Hospice.

This year, 14 riders with a combined age of 749 years will be making the trip. Some on road bikes, some with a little electrical assistance, and all with varying levels of confidence about what lies ahead.

The group has been taking on challenges like this for more than 25 years, raising money along the way for a cause that means a huge amount to us.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a bit more about the ride, the riders and, inevitably, the road bike versus e-bike debate.

Work is continuing at our project at Chatsworth House Dental Clinic in Harrogate, with some key elements of the build really starting to take shape.

Since our last update, good progress has been made on the new cantilevered roof structure, while the rooflight above the new reception area has now been installed, bringing plenty of natural light into the space.

Down in the basement, tanking works are also progressing well, preparing the area for the next stage of the fit-out.

There are some slightly more unusual works coming up next too, which we’re looking forward to sharing soon.

It is always incredible to see a new use for an old building.

This project saw the conversion and extension of an old chapel and Sunday school building in Harrogate, transforming it into a contemporary serviced office centre.

The result is a really interesting interface between old and new. The original building gave the project its character, while the new interventions helped create a completely different use for the space.

Inside, polished concrete floors, raw steel details and a large floating staircase gave the building an industrial edge. One of the standout features was the floating round office on the first floor, along with a copper mesh feature that added texture and warmth to the space.

In the communal kitchen, tables and furnishings were hand-crafted on site from reclaimed scaffold boards, bringing another layer of character into the finished scheme.

A great example of how older buildings can be reworked, extended and given a new purpose, without losing what made them interesting in the first place.

We’re approaching completion on one of our major projects in North Leeds, involving the full reconfiguration, retrofit and extension of an existing home.

With the majority of the external works now complete, attention has turned to the interiors. The upper floors are almost finished, with just floor finishes and second fix works remaining.

There’s also been huge progress at ground floor since our last update, when the screed was being poured. Plastering is now complete, a brand-new plumbing system has been installed and the kitchen fit-out is well underway.

With second fix and the final finishing touches taking place over the coming weeks, it won’t be long before this home is ready for handover.

As you may have seen we've been working on extending and improving a dental surgery on Kings Road in Harrogate, but this isn’t our first project in the sector.

Back in 2016, we completed the transformation of two existing semi-detached dwellings into a high-end dental suite, combining both buildings into one modern, purpose-built facility.

The project included an extensive renovation and extension, creating a spacious open-plan reception area and high-quality treatment rooms. To the front, a double-height glazed extension helped give the building a much more contemporary feel, alongside external rendering to bring the two original properties together visually.

The works also included external landscaping and the creation of a dedicated car park, making the building more practical and accessible for patients.

A great reminder that the best commercial projects often involve taking existing buildings and completely rethinking how they can work for a new use.

Some projects are straightforward. This wasn’t one of them - but it was completely worth it.

The former Diplomat Hotel in Bradford was derelict when we first got involved, and the refurbishment became one of the most unusual and memorable projects we’ve worked on.

The building needed serious work, starting with essential roof repairs, rotten floor replacement, new steel beams, beam and block flooring, screed, and a full mechanical and electrical overhaul.

But beyond the structural work, this project was full of one-off details.

We created bespoke doors and cladding from reclaimed scaffold boards, built kitchen units on site from OSB, and helped incorporate some truly unique features, including a tail fin from an RAF fighter jet. To get it into the building, the front door had to be removed and later reinstalled.

Elsewhere, an aircraft engine fan was turned into a reception coffee table, a piano found on site was repurposed into a bookshelf, and its cast iron frame became wall art.

The basement was also brought back into use as a gym and plant room, with tanking, screeding and wall lining helping to create a practical, usable space.

It was part refurbishment, part rescue project, and part creative challenge. A rare opportunity to bring a historic building back to life while working with materials, details and ideas you definitely don’t see every day.

In 2016, we completed a project that was featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post as one of the best building conversions in Leeds.

It was for the restoration and conversion of a former Church Army building on Call Lane, and working alongside Den Architecture we helped transform the existing building into 40 one and two-bedroom apartments.

As with many older buildings, there was plenty to work around, from the existing structure and floor levels to the original features that gave the building its character. Rather than stripping that away, the project focused on retaining key details while fully renovating the shell for modern city living.

The finished apartments averaged around 70m² each, with many including en-suite bathrooms, creating spacious, well-considered homes within a building that already had a story.
