Three bespoke homes. Three different structural journeys. One exciting project underway.
We’re proud to be providing the structural engineering design for a development of three new-build homes at Vicars Close, Biddenham near Bedford.
With one plot already under construction, a second recently redesigned and due to start later this month and the third now in the initial design phase, this project highlights how no two plots are ever quite the same.
What’s been particularly interesting is the evolution of the foundation strategy, with early piling on plot one discovering good soil conditions contrary to that identified in the soil investigations. We advised on further trial pits to confirm the soil conditions for the full footprint of plot 2 before making the decision to trench pour the remaining plots.
There are also some standout structural features across the scheme, including: concrete floors and crank steels to achieve the roof profile, along with two exposed circular columns forming a key architectural feature and supporting a large open-plan layout across much of the home.
Completion is expected over the next 18-24 months. We look forward to seeing these take shape alongside Architect Bob Harringdon Design and contractor, Blakeney Homes.
