We recently finished a pair of L&M 0.6T box dragging winches bound for Parkol Marine Engineering where they will be installed on two new build trawlers – Farnella and Victory Rose.

Designed to reduce manual handling in the fish hold, our winches include VFD control panels for low impact start-ups, and are fitted with both radio control and hard-wired pendant options as standard.

The use of electric motors as opposed to traditional hydraulically driven winches in this application removes the risk of contamination in the hold from unexpected oil leaks.

Universal Transition Couplings now in Stock

We stock a range of Philmac UTCs in our Engineering Stores at L&M. These couplings will connect to a wide range of tubes and pipes, and transmission to a BSP thread - great for emergency repairs and unusual circumstances. They can be used on many different materials, including:

- Aluminium
- Copper
- Lead
- Polythene
- PVC
- Stainless Steel

Our range includes four sizes of UTC to accommodate pipe diameters from 17 to 34mm. The male thread end is BSP in ¾”, 1” and 1 ¼”. Each coupling can handle a maximum pressure of 12.5bar at 20°C (maximum fluid temperature is 40°C).

Using a modern slide-and-tighten design, Philmac UTCs can be easily fitted without requiring any modification or tools. The couplings are made from durable thermoplastics which provides great impact and UV resistance for outdoor or indoor applications. This material is also highly resistant to corrosion and chemicals.

We’re recruiting a Welding/Fabrication Modern Apprentice at L&M Engineering.

This position combines college learning with hands-on experience in a real engineering environment. You’ll develop practical skills in welding and fabrication using modern machinery and CNC equipment to support live marine and industrial projects.

What you’ll gain:
- Paid work alongside college training.
- Experience in welding, fabrication and CNC machinery.
- Mentoring from experienced tradespeople.
- A clear route into long-term skilled employment.

What we’re looking for:
- Interest in welding, making, and repairing things.
- Practical mindset and strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn – no experience required.
- Applicants should have, or be working towards, relevant National 5 and Higher qualifications (or equivalent).
