❄️ Cold Weather Boiler Advice ❄️
With the drop in temperatures, we’ve received multiple calls about frozen condensate pipes. In many cases, this is something you can safely fix yourself without the need for a call-out by following the guidance below.
One of the most common boiler issues during freezing weather is a frozen condensate pipe. Your boiler will usually display a fault code to help identify the problem.
Common fault codes linked to frozen condensate pipes include:
• Vaillant: F28 / F29
• Ideal: L2 / F2
• Worcester: 227
• Baxi: E133 / E28
• Glow-worm: F28 / F29
How to fix it:
Gently pour warm (not boiling) water over the frozen section of the pipe using a jug or watering can, starting at the outlet and working back. Alternatively, a hot water bottle wrapped around the pipe can help. Once the ice has melted and water is flowing again, reset your boiler.
