Our very own Lee Shambrook will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 28th April 2019. He has chosen the amazing charity Bliss, which is a charity that raises money for premature and sick babies.
‘I am running the marathon for my daughter Evie. Who was born three months early and weighed less than 1lb @ 430 grams. If it wasn’t for the advances in medicine that Bliss support and the doctors and nurses at Luton & Dunstable Hospital then Evie wouldn’t be here today. Bliss are present in the NICU Unit and when either my wife or I felt concerned we always had a contact if the doctors or nurses were not available. We also had a contact once we were home to re assure us over the complications of having a premature baby. Evie is now almost two and doing amazingly well, which is why I have decided to do this now.’
Lees target is to raise £2,500 and the money could be used for:
- £25 could keep the family support helpline working for 1 hour.
- £40 could allow an overwhelmed parent to attend a counselling session with a Bliss trained councillor.
- £100 could provide essential training for a Parent to Parent volunteer.
- £155 could pay for a Bliss nurse to help three families as they leave the neonatal unit and face the challenges of going home.
- £500 could fund a Bliss family group for a whole year
- £1000 will support Bliss accreditation for neonatal units
- £2,500 will develop and deliver training for neonatal nurses
