We built a custom VR experience and connected it to a system of 2,000 LED balls, video playback, and gameplay data pulled straight out of the headset.

Ball curtain, ball wall and walls walls.

Scores, timing, and game states drive the LEDs and video behaviour in real time, so what you do in VR directly shapes the physical space around you.

Glastonbury 2024 | Arcadia Dragonfly:

Cucumber Productions, in collaboration with Video Illusions, designed, engineered and manufactured the semi-transparent, hexagonal and polygonal LED screen tiles that made the Dragonfly's eyes.

This was a big one. Arcadia came to us last year to see if we could help realise their design: two curved, transparent video screens that could handle the challenges posed by Glastonbury Festivals. Specifically, the rain. Dave Whiteoak and Ben Bennage Vaughan worked together to design the 178 hexagons and 12 pentagons which were mounted to the Arcadia steelwork.

The end result was better than anyone could have hoped for. The semi-transparency meant that ravers could never quite work out what was digital content and what was real.

Although it didn't rain this year, the screens are fully IP68 rated. So next time we have a soggy Glastonbury, we're ready.
