These probes measure the electrical resistance between two pins pressed into the material. The relationship between electrical conductivity and moisture content is used to estimate moisture levels.

However, dissolved salts in materials like gypsum plaster (calcium sulphate) can increase conductivity, leading the probe to overestimate the moisture content. This can result in readings that suggest the material is wetter than it actually is.

1️⃣ Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate the stopcocks or isolation valves under the sink and switch them off.

2️⃣ Drain the Tap

Turn on the tap to release any remaining water.

3️⃣ Remove the Handle

Unscrew and remove the handle to access the inner components.

🛠️ First Try This

🔧 Tighten the Gland Nut

This nut secures the stem of the tap. Tightening it could stop a minor leak.

🟢 Replace the Washer

If tightening doesn’t help, the rubber washer may be worn. Replace it with a new one.

🛠️ If That Doesn’t Stop the Leak

🔧 Remove the Cap and Adjusting Ring

Take off these parts to get to the inner workings of the tap.

🔄 Replace Worn Seats

Look for worn rubber or ceramic discs that control water flow. Replace them if necessary.
