🏗️ When the structural engineer gets involved…

A slightly bigger delivery than usual on site today! 😂

This steel comes in at a whopping 5.6 metres long and around 380kg — definitely not one you’re just throwing over your shoulder! 💪

It’s all part of creating the large opening on our current extension project, and another big step forward with the build.

Now for the fun part… getting 380kg of steel into position! 😅

🏠 Another job completed earlier this year by C & D Builders

What initially looked like a straightforward render job soon uncovered a few hidden problems.

The existing stone walls had previously been rendered in sand and cement instead of lime, causing areas of the render to blow and fail. Once we started carefully removing it, we also discovered a badly rotten timber lintel above the first-floor opening that needed dealing with before any new finish could go back on.

We removed the failed render, replaced the rotten lintel and carried out the necessary repairs before lime rendering the stone walls as they should have been originally, allowing the building to breathe properly.

A good example of why it’s important to deal with what’s underneath rather than simply covering over the problem. 👌

Great progress on this rear extension. 👌

After weeks of hard work, we’ve removed the old conservatory, completed all the excavation, redirected the drainage, built the foundation blockwork, and poured the reinforced concrete slab ready for the next stage. Everything has now been inspected and signed off by Building Control.

With no direct access to the rear garden, every bucket of spoil had to be taken out through a narrow alleyway, while every block, bag of cement, length of steel reinforcement and wheelbarrow of concrete had to be brought back in the same way. To top it off, all of this was completed during the recent heatwaves, making an already demanding job even tougher.

Next up, we’ll be building the walls, and the extension will really start to take shape.

Access was a bit tight on this one, but nothing stops us getting the job done. 💪🔨

One of the biggest challenges with extensions can be simply getting machinery where it needs to be. Luckily, our mini digger squeezed through with millimetres to spare and now we’re ready to crack on with the groundwork. 🏡

We’ve managed to get the conservatory down and everything cleared quicker than expected, so we’re now ready to start the groundwork on Monday.

It’s always nice getting to this stage because you can finally start to see the space you’re working with and how the project is going to come together.

Digger arrives Monday and then the fun really begins. 💪

Sorry for the delay in posting we’ve got lots of completed jobs still to share, but yesterday we started another exciting project.

We’re here to take down the existing conservatory and build a 9m x 4m extension, including a knock-through into the house.

Myself and David have been looking forward to starting this one ever since we first viewed it back in November. It’s going to be a fantastic project and we can’t wait to show you the progress over the coming weeks.

Full transformation of this driveway from start to finish, including excavation, drainage, sub-base preparation, edging and new block paving installation.

The charcoal blocks really complement the stonework and have completely changed the look of the property.

60+ tonnes dug out and taken away on this driveway project in Liskeard.

Most of the edges now in, ACO drains concreted in, and hardcore brought in, spread and whacked. Not bad going for a 2-man team in just 5 days.

Hope everyone has a great Easter weekend we’re now taking a well earned 3 days off.
