Bateman Groundworks

Bateman Groundworks We provide first-class groundworks & civil engineering services in East Anglia. Our people are our best asset.

WHO ARE WE

Born in 1997, by our founder Richard Bateman, Bateman Groundworks is the result of a desire to achieve more and be more. After 10 successful years working within the construction industry, Richard saw a gap in the industry that he knew he could fill; a Groundworks company with a more customer focused and safety first approach. OUR MISSION

Our philosophy is simple – to identify your ne

eds and provide a solution that technically and financially meets those needs to the highest quality, the safest possible standards and in an environmentally conscious and sustainable manner. WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT

We know our purpose when we partner with a developer or contractor. We are there to serve your needs, which we do with a highly skilled and qualified team. We wear our exemplary safety record as a badge of honour, recognising that your reputation is in our hands and confident that you can trust us to take care of it as if it were our own. OUR TEAM

When you have a vision, you need a team with the drive and ambition to help you reach it. This is why we’ve brought together a group of industry professionals who are as passionate about our customer centric and safety first approach as we are. To date, there’s 185 of us, some of which have worked their way up from apprentices. We encourage ALL of our people from experienced hires, graduates and apprentices to do work they are proud of to help us create a company that they are honoured to work for. OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

We care deeply about Norfolk and recognise its potential to be a thriving and creative hub while still retaining its, ‘Norfolkness’. We dedicate time, money and resource to supporting local charities and sporting events and we encourage our employees to champion causes that they care about. WHERE ARE WE NOW

Today, in the safe hands of Managing Director Jason Ramsey and with 20 years experience under our belt, we believe the calibre of client we work with is a testament to the first-class service we offer. We’re still growing, we’re still learning and have aspirations to diversify. With our team behind us and an equally solid client base, we are on course to cementing ourselves as the leading Civil Engineering and Groundworks company in the East of England, and we look forward to sharing the journey with you.

It's and, in the spirit of giving back, we've volunteered our SHE Manager Andy Olby for the East Anglia's Children's Hospices - EACH Pier 2 Pier Norfolk challenge this Saturday...🚶‍♂️

Which we may have pitched as a nice walk by the beach...

To be fair, he's taken on bigger challenges before, having completed the journey from Land's End to John O'Groats by bike, so this should be a stroll in the park (albeit a 32-mile one along the Norfolk coast).

📍 32 miles
📍 One day
📍 A very early start

As headline sponsors of the event, we're delighted to be supporting East Anglia's Children’s Hospices (EACH) and the incredible work they do across our region.

Top tip, Andy: Plasters. Lots of plasters.

You know the job is really starting to come together when the brickwork begins to rise out of the ground.

For the groundworks teams, this is always a big stage of the build. After weeks of excavation, drainage, foundations and underground infrastructure, the site finally starts to become recognisable plots and future homes.

Great work from the A.R Brickwork bricklaying team pushing things on across this development.

Full timelapse on our twin wet well installation for Orbit Group coming soon 👀

In the meantime, here’s a look at progress around weeks 3–4. With the National Trench Safety shoring system in place, the team were able to safely continue taking the excavation down in stages before the chambers really started taking shape.

In this footage, you can see the twin chambers installed, the excavation footprint tightened up significantly, and the whole structure starting to come together.

So much work goes into jobs like this… only for most of it to end up buried below ground once complete!

Busy from every angle.

Machines moving, levels changing and thousands of tonnes of material being shifted as works ramp up on this new residential development.

The early stages of a site are always some of the biggest, before plots, kerbs and roads start giving everything shape.

A proper earthworks operation in full swing 👏🏻

Tight dig. Shored up. Taking it down in stages.

This is where it matters — getting the depth right, keeping it clean, and working it safely in a tight footprint.

Fair play to the operator, who makes it look easy. It’s not.

Looks simple when it’s finished.

In reality, it’s one of the most important parts of the whole site — and a lot of work before it ever takes water.

Same site. Nine months apart.

Back in July it was just getting started — now you can see it coming together.

Plots in the ground, substructure moving, houses up and roads forming behind it.

Bit by bit, it all starts to stack up.

22/04/2026

Starting from the ground up.

On this new road in North Walsham, geogrid going down to strengthen the formation and spread the load before the sub-base goes on.

Stops movement, keeps it stable, and sets everything up properly from the start.

Not the bit you notice, but it’s doing the work underneath.
