On 22nd November 2017, three of our team members Olivia, Pete and Alex represented ULR Dreadnoughts at the Green Guild Social Enterprise Challenge. This challenge was organised by Liverpool Guild of Students and awards funding to ideas that could improve lives, communities or the environment. We are very happy to announce that Green Guild will be sponsoring our STEM outreach activities!

On 17th November 2017, some of the ULR Dreadnoughts team members had a really great time helping out Liverpool University Engineering 4 All with their STEM outreach event. This event was held to spread the awareness of the STEM fields to the high school students and to pique their interest into them wanting to pursuit the STEM related courses. ULR Dreadnoughts is always looking forward and happy to being involved in the future events and we’re thinking of holding our own ROV themed event in the future!

On 1st November 2017, ULR Dreadnoughts attended Advanced Engineering 2017 located in National Exhibition Centre (NEC) located in Birmingham, UK. The Advanced Engineering 2017 is the ninth edition of the show and it is the UK’s largest annual gathering of advanced engineering professionals which offers the participant the access to expert industry intel, latest technology and innovation case studies and supply chain opportunities.

During this event, ULR Dreadnoughts had the chance to expand our professional networks and look for companies interested in sponsoring us. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the companies who spent time talking to our team members about our emerging and exciting project.

MATE ROV Competition

Introducing the ULR Dreadnoughts team members for 2017/18 academic term. These are the backbones of ULR Dreadnoughts and will be responsible in building our very first ROV, the DC18-1. The team is headed by 11 fourth year and 16 third year Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design students. ULR Dreadnoughts is supervised and managed by 2 academic staffs from Liverpool School of Engineering. For next year MATE ROV Competition, DC18-1 is aiming to be top 2 teams during the regional competition and one of the top 10 teams in the international competition.

What does our logo mean?

The idea behind our logo was heavily influenced by the hometown of our team – Liverpool. We are not only representing the University of Liverpool, but we are also carrying the name of this famous English city and its beautiful culture. Have you ever wondered how did we come up with the name ‘Dreadnoughts’?

The name was inspired by the very first nuclear-powered British submarine; the eighth HMS Dreadnought that was commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1963. She was the dominant battleship class of her era and considered as the revolutionary battleship during that age. She was so technologically advanced that she rendered every other warship in the world's navies obsolete. Our ROV shares the same DNA and mission as the Dreadnought; to become a revolutionary underwater vehicle in today’s rapidly growing marine technology industry.
