WE’VE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR 3 BESA AWARDS 🎉💙

We’re so proud to share that Auris Tech has been shortlisted in THREE categories at the BESA Awards 2026!

🏆 Evidence & Impact Award - National Read Aloud Challenge
🏆 Inspirational Leader Award - Kim Antoniou
🏆 Rising Star Award - Victoria Edgar

The BESA Awards celebrate the people and companies making a real difference across education, and we’re incredibly honoured to be recognised alongside so many amazing organisations and individuals.

This recognition means a lot to our whole team and reflects the hard work going into our mission to help children become more confident readers through technology, literacy and accessibility.

A huge congratulations to all the other finalists 👏

Reading isn’t a skill that improves once it’s learned.

It improves through practice.

The more children read, the more their reading develops. These “reading miles” are what build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension over time.

But fewer children are reading regularly.

Our latest blog explores why reading volume matters more than we think, and what happens when children don’t get enough practice to sustain their progress.

As Professor Peter Bell highlights, making reading progress instantly visible changes the game ✏️

With ASR-enabled reading aloud, learners get real-time alignment between speech and text, turning every attempt into immediate, actionable feedback.

The result?

Stronger confidence 💪, clearer progress, and more engaged readers ✨

That’s how we make every reading moment count 📚

A powerful reminder from Al Kingsley MBE.

Literacy underpins everything. It shapes how we access knowledge, participate in society, and create opportunity over a lifetime 📖

When literacy is strong, it opens doors. When it is not, those doors begin to close early and often.

That is why this conversation matters 📣

Our latest white paper looks at what happens when children stop reading, and why rebuilding reading engagement is essential if we want to protect that foundation.

We’ve spent years focusing on how we teach children to read.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Children can read - but increasingly, they don’t.

In England:
• Around 90% of children pass phonics at KS1
• But only 75% reach expected reading levels by KS2

That’s up to 150,000 children each year falling behind.

Not because they can’t read - but because they stop reading.

Reading for pleasure has dropped significantly:
• Only 18.7% of children read daily
• Reading enjoyment has halved since 2005

So what’s going on?

We’ve been focused on instruction.

But the real issue now is engagement.

Because reading isn’t just a skill - it’s a behaviour.

And behaviour depends on two things:
• Does it feel achievable?
• Does it feel rewarding?

If it doesn’t, reading simply can’t compete with the digital world.

That’s why we’ve launched our latest white paper exploring how we rebuild reading miles - and why this is now the key to improving literacy outcomes.

The results from 5,000+ children are powerful:
• 83% read more often
• 89% enjoyed reading more
• 4x more likely to keep going after finding something difficult

As our founder Kim Antoniou says:
“I’ve seen first-hand what happens when a child goes from struggling to read aloud to doing it with confidence - it changes everything. But confidence only comes with practice, and practice only happens when a child wants to keep going.”

That’s the missing piece.

If we want better outcomes, we need to make children want to read again.

With thanks to Al Kingsley , Professor Peter Bell and Dylan Bolton for their contribution to this work.

A nice moment for us to see Auris Tech and Fonetti featured in The Herald - a Scottish newspaper given that the technology behind it has strong roots in .

When we set out to build speech recognition specifically designed for children learning to read, we quickly discovered that existing voice technology simply wasn’t built for the job. That journey led us to collaborate with leading experts including the renowned Professor Peter Bell and the team at the The University of Edinburgh , whose research in speech technology helped inform the development of our approach.

Today, that work powers Fonetti , our read-aloud platform that listens as children read and provides real-time feedback on fluency, accuracy and confidence helping children practise independently while giving educators meaningful insight into progress.

So it feels rather fitting that a Scottish paper is telling the story of technology shaped in Edinburgh that’s now helping children build reading confidence.

Big news for Auris Tech 💛

We are absolutely delighted to share that Louise Hill, Founder of GoHenry has joined Auris Tech as Chair of the Board.

Louise is a leading voice in children’s financial literacy and has spent the past five years campaigning for financial education to be embedded in the national curriculum. Her work has helped bring financial literacy into the national spotlight and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome her leadership at this important stage in our journey.

Reading literacy and financial literacy are both foundational life skills. Without them, children are locked out of opportunity.

Through Fonetti and the National Read-Aloud Challenge, we have now supported more than 25,000 children, delivered 700,000 reading sessions and over 3 million reading minutes across the UK, and we are only just getting started.

2026 is a big year for Auris Tech and having Louise guiding our board as we scale our impact feels like a powerful alignment of vision, values and purpose.

Welcome to the Auris family, Louise. We are thrilled to have you with us. 🚀
