Plate testing is underway for one of our customers this week, using one of our Komatsu PC360 excavators to provide the essential reaction load!

To accurately measure soil strength, a hydraulic jack must push down onto a steel plate with immense force. Without a massive counterweight, known as a reaction load, the jack would simply lift the testing equipment instead of compressing the ground.

By utilising the dead weight of our heavy-duty PC360, engineers can safely apply the precise tonnage needed to simulate real-world construction conditions. This vital step confirms the ground can support the heavy structures to follow without failing or settling.

Before construction can progress, plate tests help ensure site safety and stability, a very important step in the process!
