Temporary works and structural steelwork installation underway as part of a complex basement excavation and structural refurbishment project.

🔨Site Progress – Shopfront Transformation 🏗️

Forcia have now carefully removed the old shopfront, revealing a fantastic piece of the building’s original structure — riveted steel beams that have stood the test of time. It’s always rewarding to expose and work around these historic elements, a reminder of the craftsmanship that shaped London’s architectural past.

As Forcia move forward, our next phase includes the installation of a new 90-minute fire-rated shopfront system, designed to meet current fire safety regulations while enhancing the visual and structural integrity of the frontage.
Alongside this, we’re introducing secondary steelwork to reinforce the structural support behind the new installation. This is essential not only for compliance and safety, but also to futureproof the unit for modern commercial use.

The blend of heritage preservation with modern performance standards is at the heart of this project — and Clapham Common’s evolving streetscape makes the perfect backdrop.

🧱✨ Proud to have delivered this stunning transformation at the iconic Barbican Centre — one of London’s most celebrated listed buildings.
As main contractors, we carefully navigated the complexities of working within a Grade II-listed brutalist landmark, blending heritage with modern functionality. The result? A refreshed and dynamic entrance space that respects the building’s architectural legacy while enhancing visitor experience.

🚧 Big milestone at 58 Queen Anne Street!

We’ve now completed the main structure of the new rear extension and poured the concrete slab for the roof terrace 👷‍♂️🧱
Up front, the façade is coming together beautifully, with brickwork nearly complete. Inside, refurbishment works are in full swing.
Exciting progress all around — stay tuned for more updates as this transformation unfolds!

A Georgian gem, reimagined. 🏛️

Completed in 2019, our restoration and extension of this Grade II-listed townhouse at 5 Charterhouse Square had been nominated for the AJ Retrofit Awards 2019✨

Originally converted to office use in the 1930s, this historic building was transformed into a high-spec contemporary workplace — while reinstating its original Georgian character.
Highlights include:
🧱 Basement reconfiguration with lightwells, showers + lockers
🌿 Landscaped terrace + dramatic ribbed soffit boardroom
🪟 Restored interiors with timber panelling + hidden HVAC
☕ Kitchens tucked into the original closet wings
Proud to see this project still making an impact years later.

We’re excited to announce the successful completion of our redevelopment at 130 Old Street, a project that pushed our team’s creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration to new heights. From complex structural challenges to adapting our approach on-site, every step of the way was an opportunity to innovate.

🏗️ Key Highlights:
• Demolition of the rear annex & brick facade
• Redesign of the piled raft for structural clarity
• Construction of a stunning 8-storey steel extension
• Two additional floors added to the existing structure
• A new facade with brickwork and rainscreen cladding
• Integration of box frames & moment frame for a sleek, open-plan reception

🔧 Overcoming Challenges:
Faced with licensing issues for the original tower crane, we quickly pivoted to a mobile crane solution. With precise logistical planning, we ensured smooth operations in a dense urban setting.

🏅 Proud Moment:
Achieving a perfect 45/45 score in the Considerate Constructors Scheme showcases our commitment to safety, community engagement, and environmental responsibility.

🛠️ Project Update: 58 Queen Anne Street 🏛️

We’re hard at work on this Grade II listed building, carefully restoring and refurbishing its historic charm. The building has been under a Dangerous Structure notification since 2021 after the collapse of the front façade, but our dedicated team is taking it step by step to bring this beauty back to life.
What’s on the agenda? 🔨 Refurbishing the office floors. 🚧 Replacing the 1970s rear extension with a sleek two-storey steel frame space. 🏗️ Reinstating the damaged front façade with sensitivity to the original architecture.
With the support of our expert temporary works engineers, we’re ensuring every detail is handled safely and precisely as we deconstruct and enhance the structure.
Stay tuned as we restore a piece of history in the heart of Westminster!

🌍✨ Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a panel discussion hosted by and on “Redefining Obsolescence in the Built Environment: Opportunity or Challenge?” as part of the Conference’s fringe events.
The conversation explored vital questions about our approach to urban development: Do we embrace the beauty and stories of heritage buildings, even if they don’t meet current BCO standards? Or do we prioritize compliance and sustainability, potentially replacing non-compliant structures from the 1980s to 2000s?
As professionals in the industry, it’s crucial to engage in these discussions to understand the implications for future projects. The balance between preserving history and meeting modern standards is a challenge we must navigate thoughtfully.
