Soundproofing a Victorian floor between bedrooms.

Victorian properties are beautiful but sound travels through them with great ease.

The material cost to soundproof this floor was over a thousand pounds and the labour would be around the same if I hadn’t done it myself

America stole my reel and made this

First coat of plaster on today.
I built this curved wall to fit the coving I had left over from another bathroom I’d built.
At the end of this reel you can see how well the quadrant of coving fits. My friend is coming to install the coving next week once the wall is dry.

The lower section of the wall will be covered by timber panels and the upper sect will br wallpapered.
I’d like to welcome all the new followers this week and thank everyone who liked my previous reels.
I’m still getting unwelcome comments from my plasterboarding reel.
There are so many internet bullies who can’t accept that there’s more than one way to do things.
Unfortunately it happens and especially with far reaching content.

Today I started to shape the wall ready for the plaster finish. I use a timber template to get a perfect curve in the wall.😉

This is my house, it’s Victorian terrace within a conservation area in north London.
I am an old school builder where ever possible I use traditional methods especially in my own house.
I always put a skim finish on plasterboard.

Everyone does things differently there is no wrong or right way.

A Sunday job on my DIY wetroom.

Finally on the outside. Insulating and plasterboarding the curved wall.

The blue plasterboard is for sound control.
Once in place I can add the plaster finish before calling in the experts to install the curved coving.

I’m teaching myself the Japanese art of Nerikomi.

Combining different coloured clays to form surface patterns.

My aim is to eventually combine these techniques within my sculptures.

I’m trying to find different clays that will combine and behave similarly throughout the drying and firing process.
